In the Greek-Latine mythology, the Moon was personnified by Diana and Artemis. Of an untamed virginity, the Latin Diana, like the Greek Artemis, is a hunting goddess: her bow is the moon's crescent. The virgin goddess of the polytheists has often been related to the sea, mirrors, memory, death and the afterlife. The tides phenomenon allowed this connection between the Moon and the sea.
