SPACE - THE NEXT FRONTIER
Our solar system consists of only 9 planets, but there are also 61 moons. They can offer everything from ice-deserts to wild vulcans.
As you may know Mars is in the spotlight at moment. And in the future when astronauts is going to this red planet, the two moons
are an excellent place to build a base. The main reason to build an base on Phobos is that is orbiting only 6000 km over the surface of Mars. That makes it easy for
astronauts to remote control vehicles around on Mars. It also reduces the risk for us to pollute the planet with earthly bacteria's. The Russian probe Phobos 2 as
also shown that it may be water on Phobos. This can be used to produce oxygen and hydrogen and used as rocket-fuel. A 'gas-station' on Phobos would make
trips to Mars a lot cheaper.
The newest data from Europa has shown that it can be life on an icemoon. The ice covering the surface is hiding a geological
living planet with vulcainos and numerous moonshackes. It may be that we will find life in ocean under the ice on Europa.
Saturns big moon Titan is like the young earth in a freezer. It seems like we will find most of the organic substances - the basis for
all living beings - that was on the earth 4 billions years ago.
For an unknown reason half of Iapetus is black as coal, and the rest is white as snow.
Ariels enormous canyons looks like there has been running fluids there.
Tritons south pole is completely covered with frozen nitrogen.
Charon is 'BIG', almost half the size of Pluto it self.
The greatest discoverers
In the list of the greatest moon-discoverers there is no way not menceninig these four. Galilei found the first allready in 1610. Alltogether he found 4 moons. Also Herschel and Cassini found 4 each. But the record is held by Voyager 2, who discoverd 13 moons.
