(sigh)

Many misunderstandings, here. The Tavern, and subsequent Plaque(s) are intended to memorialize Realmers who have passed on. Not relatives of Realmers, or all around "nice guys" in general. Realmers. Those who, in our community, contributed, and whom we feel should be remembered and mentioned for their contribution.

It pains me to say this, but I'm seeing us divide into two camps about this, as though it were some sort of prize to be won. I'm seeing people get angry and bitter over something which, frankly, really isn't any of their bloody business. Folks, when you have a dear friend in Realm die, THEN you're entitled to caterwaul and openly throw a fit about whether or not they "get on the memorial plaque" or "get their own tavern". Until then, you're looking at it from the outside, and you're missing a key piece in your reasoning.

In case you haven't noticed, the Realm's real estate is not only going to grow very quickly, but it's also going to become more diverse. In addition, it will continue to do so, as Realm grows with us. Insisting that "there won't be enough room!" or that "it's not FAIR" is the height of both vanity and selfishness, and show the lengths some people's minds can be driven to through rationalization. We all know that we won't run out of room, and that it's perfectly fair, since there won't be a limit on this sort of thing (though we pray it won't happen very often!).

Since those aren't valid considerations, we should instead concentrate upon implementing it tastefully. I think it entriely appropriate to commemorate a faithful Realmer with a permanent fixture, no matter what it may be. And remember folks- these need not be only reminders of passing- any number of things may be commemorated in Realm. Happy things also have a place in our perms. RL Birth plaques, anyone? How many happy Realm couples have moved to RL, and how many "Realm babies" are on their way? (smile) Perhaps character birthday plaques on our houses, right under our soon-to-be-added crests, with our character's "birthday". I especially like the idea of reserving the character name of those who have died, and keeping a quiet calm place in place of their houses.

-Repectfully,

Commander
