Douglas Adams

It should be noted that, sadly, Mr. Adams has passed on.

Some wonderful Douglas Adams quotes are such great lines as:
"It must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays."
"In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
"Life. Don't talk to me about Life."
Most, if not all, great quotes from Mr. Adams come from the wholly remarkable (if not slightly apocryphal) book, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Mr. Adams has also written several other books. One of the best is, Last Chance to See in which Mr. Adams goes on Safari looking for such endangered species as the Komodo Dragon, Dodo bird, etc...
It's a really cool book, with pictures and everything! (was that enough gushing? Can I get paid now?) :)

I have recently listened to Dirk Gently on audio tape. It's an astoundingly amusing book, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a Ghost/Romance/Horror/Mystery/Time Travel/Adventure story. There's humour, there's flare, there's dash. And there's an amusing lot of silliness.

Well, on with the madness, here is a list of the books Mr. Adams has written. I'm sure there are others, I just don't personally have a complete list at this time.

  • The Hitchiker's trilogy
    1. The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
    2. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
    3. Life, The Universe, and Everything
    4. So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish
    5. Mostly Harmless

  • Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
  • The Long, Dark Teatime for the Soul

  • Last Chance to See (written with Zoologist Mark Cawardine)

  • The Meaning of Liff
  • The Deeper Meaning of Liff (Both written with John Lloyd)

  • Starship Titanic (Actually written by Terry Jones, I believe from a Douglas Adams idea.)

  • Mr. Adams has also written the Radio Drama: 'The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.
  • The TV show of said Hitchiker's.
  • And, was a script editor for the BBC TV show, Doctor Who in the 70's.

So, you can definitely say that he is a man of many talents.

The following is wholly knicked from the back of the HH radio scripts books.

The Original Hitchiker Radio Scripts, by D. Adams, and Geoffrey Perkins (who produced it). Harmony books, New York.
"Douglas N. Adams was born in Cambridge in 1952. He was educated at Brentwood School, Essex and St. John's College, Cambridge, where he read English.

"After graduation he spent several years contributing material to radio and television shows as well as writing, performing in, and sometimes directing stage revues in London and Cambridge and on Edinburgh Fringe. He also worked at various times as a hospital porter, barn builder, chicken shed cleaner, bodyguard, radio producer, and script editor of Doctor Who.

"He originally created tThe Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy as a radio series for the BBC, and then wrote it again as a novel. He has written four more novels in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitch-Hiker Trilogy--The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; Life, The Universe, and Everything; So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish; and Mostly Harmless.

"Douglas has written two Dirk Gently books, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. With John Lloyd, he co-wrote The Meaning of Liff and The Deeper Meaning of Liff and with zoologist Mark Cawardine he has written the woldlife travelogue Last Chance to See.
