Hey, Sid here. I'd thought I'd inform you guys on a couple things that have been going on during the first month of the GenX Website. For starters, I am very thankful to all who have contributed (you know who you are) and all who helped me get this far (you know who you are, too, like it or not). And it brings me sadness that this page already has to go.
HA!
I don't think so. This page is going to be around for a loooong, looong time. So get used to it! But seriously, I do thank all of you people who have been coming back for more over and over again, and I hope you continue to do so as there is muchos more to come.
On another note, you may have noticed that the GenX Chat Room is now closed. This is for a couple reasons. One, I don't have the time to keep coming in here every few hours to turn it on and off; two, in the time that it has been open, I have witnessed but three actual conversations. suggesting that the schedule has been unbelievably unsuccessful. So, perhaps the chat will not be on for quite some time, perhaps when this site is even more popular, receiving a large amount of hits a day. Three, because it's inability to operate correctly. This is a very simple script but still has some bugs in it and the auto-refresh rate does hell on my server, believe it or not. Although it shouldn't. Possibly, when summer comes around, a new script will be in the works that is truly in Real-Time, much like IRC is. Another note about the now extinct chat room, a couple of you who were there may believe that I took down the chat because of some complications with a certain chatter. This is not so, although he was pissing me off. You see, he got me slightly angry at some of the things he was saying and the way he adjusted himself toward me and I thought that would be the perfect time to shut it down for awhile, not only because he would understand that I could, indeed, do that, but also because it was somewhat overdue and I was receiving many requests from people to do something about the overall room. So to the chatter that was there and was not disruptive, I assure you it was not your fault, nor was it the fault of the other who was disruptive. It was simply something that needed to be done.
To compensate for the chat room, I have began construction of a BBS message board, similar to the one at Mania, except not as great. Remember, this will be on my own space provided by my ISP because Geocities does not support CGI scripts except the ones they make (i.e., the counter and mailto forms), so it will not be as glamorous as the aforementioned Mania Message Board. However, it will be a improvment to the page, allowing more interactivity and discussion than the chat did.
So there you have it. A good explanation of things going on and a little look at things to come. Oh yeah, one more thing. So far in the GenX Poll, the majority of the votes on the next project for me to do has been a Jubilee page. So, in case things quickly turn around, there will most likely be a Jubilee page up and about between the middle and the end of June. I have already begun work on it, actually. But nothing that is on the web. Just thoughts in me noggin about things to do and how I'm going to do them. I assure you it will be the best one out there, and you won't be disappointed.
Adios,
Sidney X, Creator of the Unofficial Generation X Fan Site (a.k.a. GenX)
