You may know here from the Age of Apocalypse, you may have seen her during the Phanalx Covenant, but as of right now everybody who reads Generation X should know her. Although her appearances were generally small, they gave great importance to the situations at hand. This, combined with other aspects of the character, has caused a huge fan support and demand to Bring Back Blink.
Most recently, Blink has been featured even in Wizard: The Guide To Comics magazine as a poster girl for their 72nd issue. This was almost expected by some, as Clarice Ferguson, a.k.a. Blink, has been in other areas of the magazine within the last few months including a fan demand for a Blink action figure, appearing in the "Top Ten Heroes & Villains" a few times, and constantly talked about in the letters column. So why doesn't Marvel just bring her back? That's a good question and it deserves a good answer. Buuuuut I don't have that answer. All I have are suspicions. One rumor that has been going around is that Blink will be returning for next years big summer crossover, which is said to be titled "The Holocaust Wars."
But you really need to ask yourself this question: Should she come back to the land of the living? Think about it, after all the times people have complained about dead characters coming back, what would make this one any different? Just recently, Marvel brought back the Morlock villain Marrow, who died for a reason and made a great story that involved the X-Man Storm. Marrow created a huge opening into Storm's character, contemplating whether it was right or not to kill Marrow, which she was forced to do. This is very much like Blink. In the Phalanx Covenant, young Clarice Ferguson became a martyr, meaning she died for a cause, she let herself die to save the other young mutants that were with her.
At that point, fans didn't really catch on to the character much, and there wasn't any demand to bring her back. It was the Age of Apocalypse that struck a chord with the readers. Seeing Blink, a relatively new character to the Marvel universe, as a core force in the Age of Apocalypse crossover really got people interested. But it wasn't the same Blink, this one was much more experienced, less frightened, and more ruthless, all the while keeping some innocence. This is what the fans wanted.
How about now? Now that fans of Blink have seen her in two different worlds, as two different types of characters, what do they want? It's diverse, as it always seems to be. Some like the AoA version, some like the short-lived Clarice, some have other wild ideas of combining the two to make the "perfect Blink." Whatever the case may be, there is a good chance she will be back. In what form, no one knows, but it's expected. Until then... Bring Back Blink! (?)
