Faith and Entropy
At this very moment your body is slowly decaying along with the rest of the universe . In the field of thermodynamics, the term entropy, denotes the degradation of the matter and energy to an ultimate state of disorder. Death is the destination and this is the utter goal of entropy - to rot everything unto a cold, lifeless state. The universe is in a constant battle between order and disorder which rages on from the minuscule atoms all the way up to the social levels of human civilization. Somehow, somewhere, we would always notice a force trying to get things in order, and a counterforce trying to put things in disarray. This is all too familiar to a mother of three kids trying to maintain a neat house. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." Mat 6:19-20 The force of Order and Disorder have the same power to catalyze
a radical and disruptive change in the environment. Throughout human history,
there has been so many revolutions, reformations, as well as empires,
and nations that swept through the whole
globe. These upheavals either left a painful scar
or an enduring legacy that lives on to this very day. "..if you have faith as small as a mustard seed...Nothing
will be impossible for you." To put His analogy in a visible contrast, let us point to a giant sequoia
tree that has grown from a seed weighing only 1/5800th of an ounce and about 1mm in diameter. It has increased its size or weight on a ratio of 1:250
billion. This is a major feat for a small seed defying the second law of thermodynamics.
The possibilities are unimaginable. If there be some kind of allegorical
faith seed planted and nurtured in an individual, it will grow from
within,
causing a startling transformation from the inside out. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. As for our bodies, the second law of thermodynamics may have the final say. But if we choose our faith well, even an ounce of it can give us that vibrant life - here, now and beyond. For faith
in the absolute Truth aligns us with the ultimate Order, the law that
gives a place for everything and everything in its place. |
