FACT FILE: RM-88 Hatchet
The Hatchet is a medium-range AGM which can inflict damage on
armored and hardened enemy ground targets with it's API warhead. It is
a heavily-used CAS weapon as it has a small blast radius and medium range
which make it a pinpoint weapon that can hit enemy targets without inflicting
collateral damage on friendly units that may be engaging the same enemy
on the ground. In a pinch, it also makes a suitable AAM with it's radar
seeker.
Primary Function: AGM (Air-to-Ground Missile)
Secondary Function: AAM (Air-to-Air Missile)
Guidance: Radar (includes EM, gravimetric and subspace scanners).
Propulsion: Microfusion Impulse Engine
Warhead: HE (High Explosive), API (Armor-Piercing/Incendiary)
Missile Nomenclature
The first letter indicates whether the missile is rail-launched
(R) or surface launched (S). The next indicates the missile's general range
category: S for short, M for medium, and L for long. The number is a designator
assigned by STARFLEET Materiel Control Command. Variants of a certain missile
(i.e. warhead or sensor combinations) may add an additional two or three
letters. For example: RL-70MSD indicates a rail-launched, long-range missile
with multiple submunition dispenser.
