The Official Patch
of the
41st Bombardment Group
"Wildcats"
History, Heraldry, and Symbolism of the 41st Bombardment Group Patch
This patch was designed in April of 1998 by Lieutenant Colonel Patton, the group's present
Command Officer and the Executive Officer of the Wildcats Squadron at the
time. The design comes from the crest of the 341st Bombardment Group (M),
a WWII group in the China-India-Burma theater. You can learn a great deal about this unit at
The Web Home of the
341st Bombardment Group (M), an excellent tribute site.
The patch of 41st Bombardment Squadron shows a green field flanked by diagonal bars of purple,
gold, and red. In the field is the head of a roaring wildcat below which is depicted a bird
of prey carrying a bomb in each claw.
The two animals depicted on the patch are in reference to the group's motto "Fly like an
eagle, fight like a wildcat." The bird of prey carrying two bombs is symbolic of the
group's mission as a bombardment group. The green field forms a wedge which appears to
be thrusting it's way between the colors of purple, gold, and red is symbolic of the Green
country, dividing the other three countries in Warbirds.
