I am the mother of the family.
The choice of a bat was due to an experience I had as a teenager. While I was
babysitting my brothers and sisters, a bat came down the chimney and was flying
around the house. I was scared and shut it in the family room. When the door
shut, the doorknob fell off. The stairs to the bedroom loft was off the this
room. I had locked the bat in the room with my brothers and sisters. All I knew
about bats was about vampire bats. I spent the next day or so looking at their
necks to see if they had been bitten and were going to turn into vampires. Buffy
