OVERVIEW

In this mission, two forces are embroiled in a fierce and bloody fight for supremacy, units intermingled in close combat as their commanders' struggle to take advantage of the confusion.

SCENARIO SPECIAL RULES

Random Game Length, Victory Points and Reserves special rules are used.

SET-UP

1 Roll dice to see who gets to choose a long board edge as their deployment edge. The player with the highest score chooses, but must deploy one of his units first.

2 Pick a corner of the board. The long board edge will be refered to as X; the short board edge Y. Measure the length of X and Y to the nearest foot (12"). For each foot of length for each of these edges, select two D6s (so, for a 6' by 4' board, you would have 12D6 representing the long edge (X) and 8D6 representing the short edge (Y)).

3 Take it in turns to deploy units as follows. Units are placed in the order: Heavy Support, Troops, Elites, Fast Attack and HQ. Units are placed at a random point (X,Y) from the selected corner. Roll the dice and measure X" along the long board edge and Y" up the board (so, for a 6' by 4' board where you roll X=2+5+3+2+4+6+3+1+4+2+4+6 and Y=4+4+3+5+5+3+6+1, place the unit 42" along the long board edge and 31" up the board).

4 When placing units of foot models, place one model in the specified position and then the rest in unit coherency in any arrangement you wish. The same applies to vehicle squadrons. If the dice roll comes up on impassable ground or another model/unit, place the unit in the nearest available spot to this area.

5 If a model is supposed to be placed on the position of an enemy model, place that unit in hand-to-hand combat with that unit. When the game starts, the models fight the assault as normal, but neither gains the +1 attacks for making the assault.

6 Roll a D6 to see who starts first.

MISSION OBJECTIVE

Determine a victor using the Victory Points method. If there is a stage of the game when one player does not have any models on the board, that player loses, even if they still have reserves to play.

RESERVES

You may bring up reserves as described in the rule book. All reserves enter play on the same turn and if your opponent's reserves arrive, your own reserves may enter play on the subsequent turn. Reserves enter via your board edge.

GAME LENGTH

The game lasts a random number of turns.

LINE OF RETREAT

Troops that are forced to fall back do so towards their own table edge.

DESIGNER'S NOTE:

The set-up for this game can be time consuming. If you find it more convenient, use dice other than D6s (D12s, D10s, D100s, etc) - just adjust the number of dice rolled accordingly. Alternatively, you can divide the board into sections and decide randomly which section a unit must deploy in. If you trust someone enough, you can get a 3rd party to place units for you (it might help if they DON'T know the rules) as long as units are placed in coherency. Another method might be that each player rolls a D6 to see who gets to deploy the next unit - the highest scorer wins. There are no hard and fast rules - just as long as the units are deployed in a random fashion.

As an alternative to the above rules, you could try this:
