    The specific incident takes place in Dragonsong, just before Menolly is rescued and taken to Benden Weyr. The map in Dragonsong shows Half Circle on the east coast of the Nerat peninsula, so it makes sense for thread to approach from the sea (east). However, the maps in Dragonsinger and all subsequent books, have Half-Circle moved across the Nerat peninsula to the west side, so anything approaching over the sea is comming in from the west.
