Background:
Catalina is from Saturn's moon Titan. Her parents have been dead for a while, and she misses them a lot. Shortly after her parent's death, she met a girl named Suzee, who became her best friend. The thing is, this girl was a resident of another dimension, and could be seen only by Catalina, because their brain waves were tuned to the exact same frequency.

When Catalina's aunt and uncle (with whom she was living at the time) saw her talking to her invisible friend, they thought Cat was a few grapes short of a bunch, and shipped her off to the Starcademy. It was no different there, and Cat was always getting teased about her "imaginary" friend. Catalina continued to talk to Suzee when they boarded the Christa, and it drives Ms. Davenport absolutely nuts hearing her!
