Moxy Fruvous

Hailing from the Great White North or in this case Toronto, four guys who formed a band 10 years ago and have since grown a very dedicated following much like that to the Greatful Dead or Phish. As they call themselves Moxy Fruvous, they put out consistantly great albums and even better live shows that make fans repeat attendees. The members are Mike Ford, Jian Ghomeshi, Dave Matheson and Murray Foster.
The Shows I have attended:
April 30 1999-Utica NY:
Not knowing much about the band at the time, I honestly didn't know what to expect only that it was something to do on an otherwise dreary visit to my alma mater of Cazenovia. What I saw was an energized, humorous and spontaneous show that made a fan out of me. Their music was easy to dance to and I did enjoy the witty banter in between. And I was amazed how accessible they were after the show. Jian was discussing politics with several audience members after the show. What troopers!July 29, 2000-Syracuse NY:
Over a year and after purchasing 5 of their albums, I went to the show with a bit more knowledge about the band. It started out waiting in line for two hours in the rain. About 8:30, the guys tried to get in through the front door, to the cheers of the line, but no luck, the fru-sters had to walk around back. About 2 and 1/2 hours later, they got on stage and floored me immediately with an amazingly dead on performance of "Nowhere Man". I was visibly stunned. As the evening progressed, it just got better and better as I found I knew more and more songs! During the imtro to "Psycho Killer", Jian was "controlling" the volume of the audience's clapping, getting loud or stopping it all together, which he did enjoy doing. Hearing the disco version of "Video Bargainville" was a real treat. And I did get to buy "c" Great job boys!
