Torres | Al's:
Steve's neighbor gave him this game because he didn't enjoy it, hasn't this guy heard of EBAY?
Steve lamented that it wasn't really free cause he'd have to buy the guy a six-pack of beer.
I told him it was definitely worth a case of Bud.
Maria started the game but had to put the munchkins to sleep, so Rich took over after the first turn.
The game went smoothly with the exception of several interpretation problems with some of the action cards.
I have to find a FAQ or ask chip about some of the issues.
Steve (238), Me (222), Al (210), Maria/Rich (195) | 80
Citadels | Al's:
I got Al hooked after introducing him to an online implementation of Citadels.
So we push Citadels on the group.
I don't know if it was on purpose or just dumb luck but I got hammered at the end of the game.
I think I spent the last three turns either poor or dead.
Maria finished the game but Rich won it because he got the color bonus.
Rich (24), Maria (22), Steve (19), Roberto (19), Tufo (18), Me (13), Al (8) | 60
6 Nimmt! | Al's:
Played three hands mainly because Tufo was busy rewriting D&D rules and wasn't paying attention to the game.
Ahh the follies of youth.
Maria (15), Roberto (16), Me (27), Al (31), Rich (43), Steve (49), Tufo (88) | 50
Trans America | Al's:
We got stuck on whether we should split up into two groups or play a large game.
Roberto took one for the team and bailed out for the night.
We choose TA because Steve hadn't played it before.
Al was on a roll! Winning the first two rounds and only losing one point in the last round.

Meine Schafe Deine Schafe | B20:
Andrew went over the rules to Dave and I.
Vitas show up just we were placing our first tiles, so Andrew went over the rules again.
This is a tile laying game were the object is to have the largest enclosed pen of his own sheep.
Each player's color is hidden until a player decided to use his shepherd.
A player can choose to stop playing, first player to do so gets a bonus of 6 points, 3 for the second out and a point for the third player out.
The game started off with cautious placements, any pens that looked like it might get large would get closed off.
I got a lucky draw and had 11 sheep on three tiles so I used the extra placement action provided by playing my shepherd.
I had a large meadow full of my sheep.
Dave blocked off the bottom part of my meadow and then played his shepherd to get the extra placement.
Dave decided to bail out first.
Andrew blocked off another section of my meadow and he too bailed after completing his pen.
It was all left to Vitas to stop me from enclosing my pen.
It almost worked but luck was on my side.
I just happen to have the tile to finish my pen.
Vitas misunderstood the rules and thought the scoring was sum of sheep in all enclosed pens.
His largest pen had only four sheep.
Opps!
Me (31), Dave (22), Andrew (17), Vitas (4) | 60
Showmanager | B20:
I went off to Scholars with Vitas to do a little shopping.
We came back and started a game of Showmanager.
Vitas had one goal in mind, no borrowing.
So he took as many free card as he could.
He failed in his objective of not borrowing.
Brian and I also didn't borrow any money from our shows but were able to generate better shows.
Brian (54), Rich (45), Lisa (41), Mike (39), Me (33), Vitas (13) | 60
Showmanager | B20:
I haven't played this game in two months and now twice in one day, when it rains it pours.
Did worst in this one, I had to flush and borrow often.
The only thing that comforts me is that Scott, who was to my left, did just as bad.
Rich (48), Andrew (43), Dave (42), Kyle (40), Me (24), Scott (24) | 60
Too Many Cooks | B20:
This is a strange trick taking game.
Scott went over the rules, confusing most of us but once the game commenced the confusion cleared up.
I started out by playing the no soup card and I was able to not get any vegetables, which gave me a nice lead.
Wasn't so lucky with the next hands only squeaking out a few points.
Andrew (13), Me (13), Campbell (12), Scott (5) | 40
Carcassonne | B20:
I was ready to head home but Kyle commandeered my copy of Modern Art.
So while I waited, we played a very quick game of Caracassonne.
My key to victory was stealing Vitas's monster Catherdal city with a 4 way city tile.
Me (139), Vitas (127), Dave L (103) | 30
Agora | B20:
With my Modern Art still in use, Vitas and I played a cheapass game.
Vitas was doing a good job of blocking off my markets.
I was starting to pick up his strategy but I drew a draw income event which gave him the victory.
Vitas (58), Me (31) | 15 | |

6 Nimmt! | Josh's:
Went to Josh's house for his first "I'm a Bachelor for a week" event.
I arrived in time for the start of the first game of the day.
Todd, Gary, Adam and Luke were all new to the game.
The game only last three hand cause Adam had skill in acquiring the bulls.
Todd kept to himself and won the game.
Todd (21), Chris (39), Me (41), Luke (47), Josh (48), Gary (64), Adam (69) | 40
Republic of Rome | Josh's:
The real objective for this weekend was to play a game from Josh's basement of "seldom played" games.
The rules explanation was long; I could have played a game of Settler of Catan during that time.
The game is set in the Senate of the Roman Republic where each player controls a group of senators.
The objective is to acquire enough influence while maintaining the Roman state, if Rome falls everybody loses.
This is a negotiation game in which players votes on matters of the state such as handling wars, handing out concessions, determining the next consuls or silly things like changing my name to Ralfius, for flavor of course.
Everybody had at least a turn being Rome Consul.
Here are some events that stood out.
Bad Omens affect the Republic ending with the natural death of the Rome Consul (Luke). Cornelius (Ralph) gets too powerful and the senate makes him the governor of Sicily for three years, sort of an exile. Julius, as Censor, prosecutes Fulvius (Ralph). Fulvius being a popular fellow appeals to the people who forgive him. Acilius (Josh) who panders to the people with land grants gets assassinated by another faction (Ralph). Chris (42), Me (32), Josh (24), Todd (23), Luke (19) | 360
Settlers of the Stone Age | Josh's:
Adam and Luke had never played Stone Age but they had played Settlers of Catan, so they picked it up quickly.
I'm starting to dislike this game mainly cause it seems that the only way to win is to make your nomads do an exploration run.
Josh once again grabbed the four level-one exploration chits and screwed most of us through the desertification process.
I grabbed the 2 VP card for one of each peoples card, the VP for construction and 5 cities but it wasn't enough.
Josh (10), Me (8), Adam (5), Luke (5) | 90
Mexica | Josh's:
Vitas had been carrying this game around for at least a month.
We finally broke it in today.
Vitas had played before so he taught us the game.
This is an action point game similar to Tikal and it has really nice bits and board.
The objective is to create districts of land and have control by placing your color temples, which come in four levels.
The player with the most levels gets the full points for the district, second place get half and the rest gets a quarter of the district size.
When the district is created any player that had a builder token in the district gets bonus points.
I had the right idea initially which was to use the map's only canal and create a 10-point district.
The only problem was I got greed and try to get presence at every possible district instead of dominating a district.
Spent too many points jumping back and forth.
Next time I'll stick around secure a district before moving on.
Rob (97), Chris (80), Vitas (78), Me (75) | 90
Call My Bluff | Josh's:
Rob wanted to play some Bluff so I pulled out my copy.
Since we had 8 players I had Josh and Vitas scrounge up 10 more dice and two cups.
When I play with more than 6 player I add the following rule, A player only loses half his dice round up if the total number of dice is greater than 30.
This avoids the instant knock out that can occur with lots of dice.
Justin, Luke, Adam and Josh were all new players.
In the first game we played with friendly rule, which we dropped during the second game.
Game 1: Vitas, Me, Justin, Josh, Rob, Luke, Chris, Adam Game 2: Chris, Adam, Justin, Me, Vitas, Rob, Josh, Luke | 60
Dungeoneer | Josh's:
Having reached our limit on Bluff, we split off to play a game which Chris had been clamoring to play.
We went over the rules for Chris and randomly picked our characters.
Chris was the Dwarf Fighter, Vitas the Sorceress and I was the Rouge.
Vitas was relentless during his Encounters phase choosing to play most of the bad stuff on me.
I think he wanted revenge for the yesterday's game of Carcassonne.
I of course played my nasty creatures and traps on him.
This allowed Chris to finish his three quests.
Chris (Level-4), Me (Level-3), Vitas (Level-2) | 90
Bang! | Josh's:
A deduction game where the outlaws want to kill the sheriff, the renegade wants to be the last man standing and the deputy wants the sheriff to survive.
The only piece of knowledge was that Chris was the sheriff.
Chris began the game by shooting Rob.
Why? Who know, but I ran with that and pretended to be the deputy and shot Rob.
Rob also got placed in jail and he stay in jail for several turns, something that really irked him.
The real deputy gave himself away so I began shooting at him.
Vitas decided to have fun and played the dynamite card.
The dynamite card goes around the table until it blows up doing three points of damage.
The dynamite by passed Vitas, Chris and I but It was poor Rob who was the unlucky fellow the failed the check.
He had just gotten out of jail too.
I killed Josh after his shoot out with Vitas and truth came out that I was not the deputy.
Chris was surprised.
Vitas was the next victim on my list.
I drank a beer to heal up but I was too hurt to take on a healthy sheriff.
Sheriff Chris, Renegade Ralph, Outlaw Vitas, Deputy Josh, Outlaw Rob | 40

Carcassonne | Lunchtime:
Our new software engineer, Norm got inducted into our lunchtime gaming group.
Dimitri shall now be known as the Master Builder.
He started and completed two cathedral cities for 42 and 27 points.
He had help but he alone score both cities.
Holly and I fought for supremacy of a super meadow (30 pts), but I whiffed and forgot to merge my uber-meeple into it.
It didn't matter Dimitri spanked us.

Drakon | Danger Planet:
Played a quick game of Drakon while we waited for Vitas to show up.
My initial draw had three gold tiles so I quickly
I split away from the group and started building my gold generating path.
I had a nice lead going but both Cindy and Karl used tiles to rob me! Evil people.
Karl (5), Cindy (4), Me (3) | 20
El Cabarello | Danger Planet:
Vitas and I had been trying to play this game since I acquired it.
We went over the rules for the basic game.
I think Vitas expected more of a Carcassonne game because he complained that it required more brain cells than he had expected.
This game had some serious "screw your opponents" quality that I enjoy.
I was nice pointing out tactics one could employ to score points or hose someone else.
I enjoyed and so did Vitas, hopefully we'll play this again.
Cindy (81), Karl (61), Me (57), Cindy (54) | 75
Carcassonne | Danger Planet:
Vitas bought the new Builder and Traders expansion for Carcassonne.
Vitas and Cindy got locking into building a cathedral city that never got finished.
Karl and I went wild building smaller cities and went heaving into farming.
I give a "thumbs up" for the new tiles which provide more funky city and road connections and to the goods which offer an incentive for closing other people cities.
The builder seems good if you attempting to finish a large object but it seemed like a large time investment to get the benefit.
The pig felt like it was more an afterthought and will only be useful if you control the meadow in which it is placed.
Me (167), Karl (149), Cindy (84), Vitas (75) | 60

Bohnanza | Ilise's:
Went to Ilise's for dinner and afterwards played some games.
First up, Bohnanza because it could handle the player load.
Alice and Eric hadn't played before so I went over the rules for them.
As usual, the newbies got off to a slow start mainly because they were still trying to figure out the value of the deals.
After a few rounds they adjusted to the deal making and the trading got hot and heavy.
Eric proved to be a very skilled trader.
No one bought the extra bean field.

Settlers of Catan | Ilise's:
With the arrival of Dimitri we split up into two groups of four, one group started a game of Puerto Rico.
We played a game of Settler and it was a harsh one.
No one had any kind of balance in their production.
Ilise and Holly were short ore and had no access to it while Chet and I had no access to brick.
Each player built to their resource strength.
Everybody bought lots of dev card that they ran out, a first for me.
Ilise had longest road and largest army in addition to her five settlements but could not upgrade to a city.
I had grown slowly but my cities were starting to provide lots of resources and was one away from victory when Chet took largest army from Ilise and showed his three Victory points.
The Puerto Rico people were happy we had finished.
Chet (10), Me (9), Ilise (7), Holly (6) | 120
Trans America | Ilise's:
Need a quick closer for the night so I pulled out Trans America, which Ilise had not played before.
Chet finished the first three rounds.
He was sooo winning that people ganged up on him so he wouldn't be the first to finish.
He still won but at least he didn't have 13 points.
Chet (8), Me (3), John (3), Holly (1), Dimitri (-1), Ilise (-3) | 40
Settlers of Catan | Ilise's:
John needed a Catan fix so I stayed for another game.
John and I had no hope in this one.
The rolls were very friendly for Ilise.
She had cities in no time, snagged the largest army and had several dev VPs.
The game was over sooner than one could say "Holy Crap!"

Robo Rally | Chris's:
5 flags on a 2x2 tile Canyon, Cannery Row, Cross, Backstretch Went to Chris's house for his birthday game night. Rob had never played before so I started going over the rules but Marcus was more of a jump in and figure it out we go. Poor Rob. He had some issues but was able to muddled thru it. Rob had the Howeritzer option and used very effectively which gave him the lead for the first half of the game. The backstretch tile gave rob trouble allowing the rest of us to catch up. Cannery Row turned out to be the lethal board, killing three robots. The end game was almost a race between Rob and I but Marcus ran into Rob's robot messing his program and allowing me to win two turns later undisturbed. Me, Rob E, Marcus, Todd, Esa | 480
Call My Bluff | Chris's:
Mandatory game of bluff.
Friendly rules because the birthday boy demanded it.
Rob, Me, Rob E, Todd, Chris, Marcus
Fist of Dragonstones | Chris's:
Chris and I have been playing Citadels online so I figured we might play something similar.
This is game were each round there are 10 characters up for auction, 8 of them are always the same and two are randomly drawn from a deck.
The winner of the auction uses the character's power which could be acquiring dragonstones, money or converting dragonstones for victory points.
The first player to three points wins.
Rob was truly evil; he had a knack of hosing Chris.
Guess he didn't realize that Chris was the birthday boy or maybe he did?
Chris didn't like the game; I guess it could be due to his performance or the alcohol.
Rob (3), Rob E (2), Todd (2), Me (1), Chris (0)
Apples to Apples | Chris's:
Rob wanted to play a party game, so we choose Apples to Apples.
Chris got upset about some of the nonsense things being submit, so he made up a rule that if a someone submitted a thing that had no relation to the description, the player would be penalize by losing a card from there hand size.
I think this rule actually improved the game because it changed it from a speed game to a thinking game.
We had so much fun, we played it twice.
We had some much fun, we played it twice.
Game 1: Chris Game 2: Rob
Bucket King | Chris's:
Played using the tie reverses direction variant.
Rob E didn't like this variant but he did say that it was the closest game of the Bucket King he had played.
I sucked big in this one, getting knocked out in every hand.
I was starting feel a little run down too.
Rob E (15), Rob (14), Todd (12), Chris (2), Me (0)
Wizwar | Chris's:
Rob E left and I were heading out but Chris said we could crash at his place if I wanted to play more games.
So I stayed.
I had Chris make me some coffee because I was feeling a little tired.
The action started out instantly.
Rob (again) picked on Chris making him blind for six turns.
While Chris stumbled around, other players took his treasure.
Todd and I fought each other over a treasure allowing Rob to another treasure for the win.
Rob and Todd decided to head home and the coffee made me so wired that I too headed home.

Carcassonne | Ilise's:
The game order had arrived, so I had to go over to Ilise's to show off the new games.
First up, Carc with everything! I used a builder to create a 32 point city.
Ilise closed it off to get the cities' four goods.
John likewise use a builder to create a catherdal monster.
I jumped in to "help".
When the city was completed, it scored 81 points for us and gave 6 goods chips for John.
Ilise was in lead until that point.
It seems the the builder is very effective in games with low people count.
My piggy only scored me an extra 4 points, Ilise's piggy scored her 5 and John got two.
So far that piggy looks like a disapointment.
Me (209), John (186), Ilise (152) | 60
Meine Schafe Deine Schafe | Ilise's:
Ilise and John like tile laying games, so I figure we might give this a try.
The translation for shepherd placement was iffy so we decided that it could be done during another player turn.
John quickly built a 14 sheep pen.
He stuck around to hose Ilise and I.
After it appeared that he had succeed in messing us up, he bailed for the bonus 6 points.
Ilise pretty much gave up closing off her big pen and went for hosing me.
She did a good job of it too.
She bailed out for the 3 point bonus.
I was able to build another 10 pen after she bailed.
He he he.
Not sure they enjoyed but I like this game.

God this one was a sloooow game.
After two hours, I was in the lead with 8 points and I had been the one to lose my city to barbarians early.
Thirty minutes later, John was able to explode into victory by stealing my longest road and getting two metros in one turn.
I got only one progress card during the whole game.

Criag and Holly wanted to try the new Carc expansion.
No big scores mainly because no one was in the sharing mood.
The few time that someone try breaking they got shut out.

Craig and I scored 20 points and Holly 10 from trade goods.

Robo Rally | Al's:
I found a site (www.robofactory.de) that had some good-looking maps and options.
I printed a few and took them to Al's. 1x3 line setup: Trapdoor, Highway and Arkham Asylum. You can find them here! Maria and Rich got out to a fast start ignoring common wisdom and getting ahead of people on a tile with no walls. Maria had the smoke generator (new option) that helped avoid LOS but Rich got plinked often. Tofu and Steve died when they ended the turn on a one-Trapdoor. The second flag was placed in a very nasty spot, in between two randomizers and a pit. Possibly the main reason we didn't finish the game. With no one to interfere Maria was able to touch it and head to the third one. Meanwhile everyone else had a hell of a time touching that 2nd flag. Rich who had the Jamming Transmitter (new option) really hosed people when he turned it on. Maria was a few squares away from the fourth flag, and everybody else was localized near flag two, there was going to be some serious mayhem. Game called at the 2 1/2 hour mark. Sadly it was probably going to be the best turn too. Maria (3), Chris (2), Rich (2), Me (1), Steve (1), Al (1), Tufo (1) | 150

Paris Paris | B20:
Played this game while we waited for more people to show.
Fun light game set in Paris where players place shops on tour lines.
At certain intervals a tour occurs and players scores points for shops on the major intersection plus bonus points for neighboring shops.
Each spot can only contain a limited number of shops so some shops will be force out during the game.
At the end of the game the player with the most removed shops gets bonus points equal to the number of shops.
Scott who had play several times before had claim that he hadn't figured out the game yet and proved it to use by coming in dead last.
I got a 6-point bonus for having the most shops removed.
Proof that they always pick on me.

Settlers of Catan | Annette's:
I went to Annette's for dinner and a few games.
We whetted our mouths with a classic.
I got out to a fast start grabbing both longest road and largest army but my initial lucky rolls died down.
Annette grabbed the longest road and for a while we competed for the longest road.

I bailed out first.
Annette bailed out next.
Matt tried to build a large pen uninterrupted but couldn't score enough sheep.

I felt I did a good job as the animals because I only lost by 20 points.
On the next round, I was the Humans and Kelly flipped up her bears within a few turns.
That should have been the game, but I was too caution and one of the bears escaped. I won the round but didn't get enough points to win the game.

Paris Paris | B20:
I wanted to give this game another try. I messed up on this play because I concentrated to getting my hidden line filled.
This allowed people to pick on me and Eric was ignored allowing him to build his line up. There was a three-way tie for ejected markets so no one got the bonus points.
Eric stomped!

Amun-Re | B20:
Eric wanted to play the new game Amun-Re but no one with experienced was available. So we sat down and starting going thru the rules.
Dave and Rich join us and we went over the rules.
The game was interesting with an "EVO-like" bidding for regions, building pyramids, sacrificing to the gods and getting farmers for cash.
The game started out very balanced with everyone scoring about 15 points during the old kingdoms phase.
During the new kingdom phase Rich and Eric got the previously build up regions while Dave and I got the undeveloped regions.
Yep, we got that rule wrong, the correct rule was to remove the unused regions from the game after the old kingdoms phase.
DOH! That's okay cause there were plenty of DOHs in the game and there was confusion during the final scoring phase.
Well, I know better for the next game.

Royal Turf | B20:
I was heading home early, so I push Royal Turf. Didn't have a great betting day, I scored 1000 points of my score in the last race.

Settlers of Catan | Ilise's:
The initial rolls were all friendly for Cathy and she quickly got longest road and additional settlements.
After 16 rolls I had only collected 4 extra resources. I was not having a good time. I was able to get the ore port and settle several ore tiles.
Later during the game I monopolized ore, according to John I was eight short of having all available ore.
Needless to say I exploded to the lead. The game became a race between Cathy and I. She got there first.
Kent had 2 Dev VPs and largest Army and Cathy had longest road

Great Dalmuti | Ilise's:
I whipped out a game I thought they might enjoy. I played with a scoring variant where the great Dalmuti gets 3 points, the lesser Dalmuti gets 2, the merchants 1 point and the peons nothing.
We decided that the first person to 12 would win. I was surprised it took 9 hands to get a winner.

Puerto Rico | Ilise's:
Starting order John, Me, Ilise. Fastest game of Puerto Rico I've ever experienced. Ilise went corn shipper strategy while I went builder and John did a mix. I only produced three goods during the game, Indigo, Sugar and Coffee. I always sold my coffee for money and quickly started building the big ones. At the end of the game I had the Fortress, City Hall and the residence. John was the only other to build a big one, Guild Hall. John and I tie but he had an extra dollar. Carcassonne | Al's:
Looks like people are getting the hang of handling the builder. "Screw it if you can" is the prevailing practice at Al's.
My builder got stranded (nasty placement by Rich) on a city that required a very specific tile. Tofu and Rich placed there on a cathedral city that never completed.
Chris used his builder effectively as a road builder. Al, Tofu and Rich squander plenty of meeples vying for the cathedral city that never completed.

Call My Bluff | Al's:
Dimitri had arrived in time to play Bluff but decided to wait. Three of us got knocked out on an exacted bid.
Chris took it was three dice remaining.

6 Nimmt! | Al's:
I had brought plenty of four play games so we could split up but no one jumped on the bandwagon. So Maria pushed 6 Nimmt.
We gave Dimitri a quick rules overview and tossed him into the fire.
The game last 4 rounds with Roberto taking the biggest dive scoring 43 points in the last hand!
Me (38), Tofu (43), Maria (52), Al (61), Chris (61), Dim (63), Rich (74), Roberto (108) | 50
Citadels | Al's:
Again people were hesitant about breaking up into groups, so Al pushed Citadels.
I added the Queen character to the mix so we could play with 8.
There was a good mix of backstabbing, thievery and grudges that made the game lively.
Roberto was the only one to get to eight buildings. Roberto, Chris and I got the color bonuses.
Roberto (23+4+3=30), Chris (25+3=28), Tufo (25), Me (21+3=24), Rich (22), Maria (20), Dimitri (20), Al (20) | 90 |
