Of all the words we overuse --
And there's probably quite a few --
The word that really takes the cake
Is at the center of "I love you."
We "love" the snow; we "love" the spring,
The colors in the fall . . .
We use that little word so much
It means little now at all.
We love our spouses and our kids,
And, really, THAT'S all right . . .
But we "love" a warm and sunny day,
The moon on a starlit night.
We "love" that dress; we "love" that tie;
We "love" that pair of shoes.
And we "love" our music -- yes, we do --
Classical, rhythm and blues.
We "love" to ski; we "love" to swim,
The crack of a baseball bat . . .
We really, really "love" our sports.
Oh, the THRILL of a wrestling match!
We "love" that house; we "love" that lawn;
We "love" that antique chair.
We "love" the border on that wall,
The carpet on the stairs.
Oh, aren't we just so FULL of love?
But these things are frivolous, trite . . .
We NEED to love the Lord, our GOD,
With all our heart and soul and might.
Accept the amazing love of God,
A gift that is matchless and free!
His love is so strong that He faced a cruel cross,
And He died there for you and for me.
Remember the perfect love of God
That came through a virgin birth.
"Set your affection on things above,
Not on things on the earth."

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created." (James 1:17-18 NIV)
