Day One
I have high hopes that we will win this war in a short time. There's a lot of talk that the enemy will surrender after they see the size of our force, but some doubt it because of what they've heard. Oh, it's time to move out. I'll write again later.
Day Five
I'm sorry I haven't wrote for awhile, but we've been busy lately. The enemies been attacking us and I had to take night watch for the last three nights. I haven't had time to write, only enough to sleep and eat. Our King saw me and asked me how I was doing and I told him fine, but a little tired and that I hadn't much time to rest or write you since the enemy attacks started. So, he said in a nice friendly voice "We'll find someone to relieve you tomorrow" so today he had me do day watch instead of night watch, but day watch is shorter. So now I will be able to write you more often. Good night. I love you all.
Week One
We've been on a two day march. Right now we are resting so we can feed and water the horses and the men can get some water and eat a little. We're getting ready to march out again.
Week One, Day Three
The enemy has finally stopped attacking us, for now that is. We're almost to one of the enemies strongholds. Our King says we should be there in two days. I'll write again later.
Week Two, Day One
Well I'll never be doing like I thought I would, which is to keep a day by day journal. Never mind that, I will try to write whenever I can since things have picked up again now that we're settled outside of the enemy stronghold. I have to go now.
Week Two, Day Six
We kept the enemy inside so far for the past three days, but they were able to hurt about fifty or so of us but not before we killed a hundred of them. I got to stop now someone spotted something.
One Month, Day Five
We still got this place under siege. If we can hold them two or more months we should be able to get their keep soon.
One Month, Two Weeks, Day Five
A friend of mine has been teaching me math, and I've been teaching him how to read and write better. He has been teaching me how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. I am still having a hard time learning division, but I've been teaching him how to spell, read, write, and speak correctly. Oh! it's my turn for watch I will write again later dear.
III Months, II Weeks, IV Days
As you see I can now write down numbers as well as spell them. One of the nobles in our company is teaching us some more math, something called percents and decimals. It's not too hard to learn, but it is hard. We still got the enemy keep under siege.
IV Months, I Week, VII Days
When this war is over with, I will send this journal and most of my money. I have about 30 gold, 50 silver and 100 bronze right now, and I expect to get a lot more by the time I'm done.
V Months, IV Weeks, V Days
The enemy has surrendered! They could not hold out any longer, their men were starving and had run out of food a month ago. We have just finished searching the place for valuables. I found a long sword that was magical, some jewels, gold, and some good armor. Tomorrow we are moving out.
VI Months, III Weeks, V Days
We set up camp outside of another enemy keep. We lost some more men since the first siege, 25 dead, 30 wounded. I got to stop now the enemy is surrendering.
VIII Months, I Week, II Days
Sorry I have not written for a while, but we have been busy taking the loot from their keep. You won't believe what I found this time, well I found; 200 gold, 334 silver, 453 bronze, and one roll of silk. On the down side we came across a Priest of Darkness and had to call a Paladin of Light. I can't write much longer. It's late and I have to be up very early tomorrow. Good Night Everyone.
IX Months, III Weeks, VI Days
That Noble I told you about awhile back has been teaching us how to tell time by the position of the sun and the moon. We are on our way to meet a large enemy force coming from the south, and we are to meet and engage them. To be truthful with you I'm afraid, but also excited, a real fight not these stupid sieges, where we out wait the enemy. I have to stop now. Night everybody.
XI Months, II Weeks, V Days
We won our first actual battle against the enemy! We lost a lot of men, but they lost double. I was wounded, but I'm healing well so don't worry our King uses his money to heal all his soldiers.
I Year, I Day
It's going to take longer than I expected or anyone else expected. I'm starting to worry because the people I came in with since we were recruits are starting to die, some of us that survived are now veterans. That noble that was teaching us died we found out who he was he was our prince. We held mourning for the prince last week. The King swore not to rest till his son's murderers were dead and buried. We are going out again, I'll write later.

We encountered some more of the enemies forces not nearly as large as the one we first encountered, but just as heavily armed and just as dangerous.
I Year, I Month, II Weeks, V Days
We have been looking for enemy soldiers that escaped so they can't regroup as quickly. I can't stand it any longer, too many of my friends have died. When we move out tomorrow we should have found most of the escapees. Let the Goddess of Light protect us.
I Year, I Month, III Weeks, VII Days
We are going to one of our Lord's Keeps to rest and resupply. But not before we fight one last small fight. The enemy have blocked our way back to the King’s Castle.
I Year, II Months, I Day
The King is sending out fresh troops to relieve us. There probably won't be anything real exciting happening. I will write again later.
I Year, III Months, II Weeks, III Days
I was wrong because we are being besieged by the enemy! They came in the dead of night by the time we saw them it was almost too late to close the gates if we had spotted them a little later we would have been over run in a few minutes. The enemy attacked the next day and they regretted it. We had our oil and torches ready and they had to retreat and had to repair their siege equipment, tend their wounded and bury their dead. It was at least a week before they attacked again. I have to go.
I Year, V Months, IV Weeks
The enemy had to flee, just yesterday our forces returned and took the enemy by surprise and we were finally able to open the gates and rush the enemy, and We Won! I thought we were going to starve to death like the way I saw others dying from the lack of food. Well, it's getting late, good night.
I Year, VI Months, I Day
We are moving out today. We heard of an enemy keep, but what I have been hearing is that our forces ran into some more of the Priest of Darkness not to mention the Warriors of Darkness. Apparently our enemy is now the Lord of Darkness himself or at least his followers. I'll have to write again later.
I Year, VI Months, III Weeks, II Days
We now have with us ten Paladins of Light and we also have the Guardian and four of his companions. Ever since they heard the Lord of Dawn was sending in the Knights of Dawn not to mention the entire Army of Dawn to fight off the forces of Darkness and to avenge the death of his son. Something tells me something is going to go terribly wrong. I don't know why, but I got this feeling that something awful is going to happen.
I Year, VIII Months, II Weeks, IV Days
This feeling I had has now turned into recurring nightmares. Every night it's the same dream, I can see myself walking with all of the company, and I'm talking to my friend who I taught how to read and write, and all of a sudden I get that feeling back, and shudder then I look around, but I don't see anyone or thing so I go back to talking then all of a sudden everything goes black, and I wake up in a cold sweat. I'm going to tell the King tomorrow about my dream or maybe one of the Paladins. Night.

I told the King, he seemed to take me serious, and he told me why, apparently another soldier warned him about ten years ago, and he didn't listen to him, and he ended up losing half of his company to an ambush. Since then he vowed to listen to any weird happening and try to find out if they were real. He told me that he would call council with the Paladins of Light, and Knights of Dawn, and to not say another word about this until I was called by him to the council.
I Year, VIII Months, II Weeks, VII Days
The council called me yesterday, and I told them what I had seen in my dream. Some looked doubtful after I finished, but one of the Paladins said, that it was possible that something could be trying to warn me of something, but they do not know if it is good or evil. After an hour of arguing, and calling me a liar they called the Guardian in and had me repeat the story a fourth time to him. He said, that warning was from the High Lord himself, and that the Darkness meant two things. One that if I continued with them tomorrow I would probably die, and that the Lord of Darkness himself was interfering with the warning. They asked me if I wanted to resign from the company, I said, no. They asked if I wanted to be reassigned, and I still said, no. Something tells me that they will need me, I don't know why, but they will need me.
I Year, IX Months, II Weeks, II Days
I am sorry my family, but after today my friend will probably be writing to you instead of me, my friend I taught how to read and write is going to take over writing to you. Because I'm dying from a wound that a Warrior of Darkness gave me. I now know why I was to stay, I was to save the King, this wound was meant for him, but don't worry I'm in no pain. The King and the Paladins have tried everything to heal me. Nothing will work, don't worry the King told me that you will be taken care of. I'm feeling tired now. I'll write to you again if I can. I love all of you.

I'm very sorry your husband died, but it was his choice, he saved the King's life and he has been rewarded greatly. You now own the land your on plus more and where your husband is buried there is a memorial being built in memory of what he did for this land and his King. I'm very sorry John had to die.
I Year, X Months, III Weeks, VI Days
John told me before he died to continue where he left off so that this war will never be forgotten. He knew the death of an ordinary soldier would probably be forgotten, so I'm here to record them so they never are forgotten.
I Year, XI Months, II Weeks, VII Days
The King has been wounded their not sure if he will live. The healers have tried almost everything. One of the men was standing near the King when it happened. He saw somebody in the trees and moved in front of the King. He took one bolt which killed him instantly and the second hit the King. We caught the man who shot them. He didn't die quickly, some of the men left him with a dagger in his gut. He would die in a few days, but somebody took mercy on him.
I Year, XII Months III Weeks, V Days
Damn that Lord of Darkness. He attacked during the night and we were not ready we were able to repel the attack, but it cost us dearly we lost three hundred men and another one hundred wounded we'll probably lose another fifty by morning. Now for some good news the King is starting to get better and will be moving around soon.

The Guardian wanted me to tell you that he is sorry about your loss and from what he heard your husband was a good man and shouldn't have died so young. Since he did the Gods must have something planned for him. The last of the enemies have been gathered for the funeral pyre. I have to stop writing now.
