Designed for long duration maritime patrol, the P-20 also has some utility in a wide range of other roles, including electronic warfare and airborne early warning. Unusually for such a long ranged craft it uses ducted fans, both for quietness and superior fuel economy. A widely marketed design, the P-20 is operated by the USA, New Zealand, and several other states. Equipment fits vary considerably - the listed equipment is specific to New Zealand, but is representative of fifth wave operated aircraft. Most US aircraft are of similar or even higher standard, but a few reserve forces have lesser specs. P-20's usually operate on only one engine while cruising; this increases their operating endurance to slightly over 10 hours. |
