Have you ever started a project with the: "This is no big deal its in my budget I can’t wait to do this!!” attitude in your head? It’s always great in the begining. Thats how this started. Well, I guess that sounds kinda negative. lets start over.

These pictures show my Boba Fett costume made by following the instructions at the Build Your Own Boba Fett web page. However, the project pretty much started back in late Dec. ‘95. I picked up the don Post studios BF helmet after some debate figuring -Hey! I can repaint it to look soo much better.  My good Friend John said: “Well you got the helmet, you don’t have much more to go to have an entire suit!” I laughed it off.

So, around January of ‘99, while surfing the web for other things(don’t ya just LOVE seach engines!), came accross the Build Your Own Boba Fett web page and got to thinking . Hmmmmm. So I through the idea past John, friend and who I thought would be the voice of reason to NOT buy the parts, and subsequently began ordering parts. He said: “Hey, it would just be a part every two weeks. You spend about that every check on models anyway!” So, thats how it started. Of course, as time went on, I slowly added up the cost, work, the wonderful lady I work with who did all the fabric parts for free, I kinda got a little burned out.

What I figured would be a cheap alternative to buying a life size statue became a bit more that I thought it would. I set myself a Dec 29 finishing date so I could have it ready to wear it around work, a job that I let my friend Ross do since he wanted to wear it so bad and he would be within a few yards to kill him in case he damaged it. And Viola! There you see it in these pictures!
It wasn’t too hard, just stopped once and a while and thought “What the hell am I doing!!” That and setting a finishing date probably made it seem more taxing. The parts are wonderfully vacume formed. very nicely detailed. You simply scribe around the part, them pop it loose. Follow that with alot of sanding, primering and painting, it’s not hard at all. I mixed all my colors using model master enamals, then airbrushed them on. The pieces are stuck down to the fabric with an adhesive called the welder, basically, it would be considered ‘Out of the box”.
It retrospect, yeah it seemed like a lot of money, but the results are wonderfull. Just set aside a bit each check, one part at a tme and before you know it, the biggest hurtle is behind you. Mr Bradley has made it easy for anyone to build their own Boba Fett. Jump in there and give it a try!
