Gangorn sat on his pallet as he watched Kithra fall
asleep. Gangorn spent a lot of his time watching her, watching the woman he had committed his life and his heart to. As she fell into a deep sleep Gangorn rose and silently walked to the edge of the bed. Looking down at her sleeping form he smiled to himself as he reached to the foot of the bed a pulled the coverlet up onto Kithra. Silently he walked towards the door and left the room.
He motioned to a guard, "Watch this door. Any noise at all, anything and I want you to get in there. If Kithra Sedai wakes up and asks where I am, tell her I needed to run to the gaidin quarters for something."
The guard nodded and Gangorn headed off, uneasy about leaving Kithra for even a few minutes. Gangorn looked around at the unfamiliar walls of the gaidin barracks. The barracks
he had been in rarely since he arrived at the tower. Entering he saw his few bags sitting in the corner. Immediately grabbing one he searched the pocket for what he had come to find. Slipping the object into his pocket he returned to Kithra’s quarters.
Kithra awoke slowly, and she sat up to see a sight that had become familiar over the past weeks, Gangorn. She watched him for a few moments, he was sitting at her desk, staring at something in his hands. She rose silently and glided over to him.
As she was about to tap him on the shoulder, he spoke softly, "Good Morning, my love."
A little startled he had heard her small movements she backed up, a step. "My Gaidin, may I ask what you are studying so intently?"
"Of course you may." He turned in the chair and held his hand up. A golden ring was held in between his forefinger and thumb. There was some writing scripted on the inside of the band. Kithra reached for it to read the script. Gangorn released his hold on it the instant her fingers closed on it.
"Where did you get this Gangorn?" She looked up at him, her fingers twirling the ring between them.
"It was delivered to me as I was leaving Caemlyn. With a note. A note from the queen. I’ve told you of my dishonor." He held up his hand to stop her as she started to speak, "I know. There was no dishonor, but what happened has always seemed like a dishonor." Reaching into his pocket before she even asked, he took the note out and handed it to her.
Kithra looked up incredulously, "and you still consider it a dishonor? After all of this?"
Gangorn looked up, as she reached out to hand him back the ring. He took it into his hand and slipped a simple chain through it, "Kithra, I want you to keep this. The ring. It is to big for your fingers, until I find someone who can make it smaller it will
have to stay on the chain."
She shook her head slightly, "I couldn’t. This was given to you, by your queen. It is special."
"Kithra, I know it is special. That is why I am giving it to you. Kithra, I want you to marry me." He looked into her eyes, waiting for the answered he hoped would come.
