8. "Lover's Walk"
Opens outside of Sunnydale High where Xander and Willow are discussing their
SATs scores. Willow is perturbed that she only got a 740 on her verbal where
that was pretty close to Xander's composite score. As Willow whines Xander
tries to console her and he puts his arm around her. Cordy and Oz come up
behind them and Xander is quick to jump away. While, Xander marvels at Cordy's
good score Buffy joins them looking unhappy. Willow is very excited to learn
that Buffy has scored a 1430 on the SATs. Buffy isn't as enthusiastic to
ponder her future. Xander says something about all of them getting together
to celebrate their scores. Cordelia unintentionally but rudely remarks that
Buffy should leave town. After realizing she said something wrong, she says
nobody would ever want to come back to Sunnydale. Cut to Spike driving through
the Welcome to Sunnydale sign (like he did in "School Hard") but this time
plus a high blood alcohol level and minus Drusilla. Spike walks into his
and Dru's former nest, the burnt down factory. Inside he finds Dru's old
dolls. These dolls cause unhealthy emotional, violent outbursts. As he beats
the dolls to pieces he screams at no one in particular about how unfair it
is Dru left him and he calls her some not so nice names.
Cordelia is going through her locker when Xander comes up and tries to convince
her bowling with Oz and Willow is a good idea for a double date. He then
notices the pictures of him in Cordy's locker. After inquiring if he was
locker door material Cordelia says that he makes the cut but just barely.
Besides she looks good in those pictures. As they are going down the hall,
they run into Willow and Oz and finalize their double dating plans. The camera
follows Willow to her locker now with Oz in tow. Oz surprises her with a
newspaper wrapped present. It's a pez witch. And, Willow couldn't be happier.
She feels inadequate because she didn't get him anything. Oz reminds her
that she does give him stuff. Spike looks in on Angel reading a book later
and curses him out from the safe distance of the garden. There morning finds
itself burning a hole into Spike's hand because he fell asleep in the garden.
He makes it to his care clumsily.
Giles is in the library packing with Buffy as they talk about her college
plans. We learn Buffy's mom is totally happy, and Giles is going on a retreat
45 minutes away in Breaker's Woods for the weekend. Buffy admits she's going
to see Angel.
Cut to Willow telling Xander that bowling is NOT a good idea. That she and
Xander might lose control of themselves in front of Cordy and Oz. Willow
goes to a magic shop where Spike also happens to be. He overhears Willow
and the saleswoman talking about love spells and he decides that's just what
the doctor ordered. After Willow leaves Spike kills saleswoman. At the Mayor's
office an assistant comes in to inform the Mayor that Spike is back in town
causing trouble. The Mayor rambles about selling his soul for a good golf
game but it's a little late for that. The assistant suggests they get Mr.
Trick to send a "commitee" for Spike. The Mayor concurs. Willow is in the
chemistry lab trying to conjure up a delusting spell. Xander comes in but
he doesn't know why he's there. He tells her to clean out because Cordy and
Oz with be here shortly. Xander finds Willow's book on witchcraft and is
quick to remind her that he hasn't had much luck with love spells. As Xander
goes to turn on the lights Spike comes in and knocks Xander unconcious. He
grabs both Xander and Willow and takes them to the factory. Xander lies
unconcious on the bed in the factory while Spike tells Willow all about his
break-up with Dru. Willow scared out of her mind, tells Spike to go get her
some supplies and her spellbook that she left at Buffy's house. Cordy and
Oz rush into the library where Buffy is jumproping in a not jumproping friendly
shirt. They go to the chemistry lab to look for Xander and Willow. They find
broken beakers and conclude that their was a fight. Buffy tells Cordy and
Oz to go get Giles at his retreat, and they head for Breaker's Woods. Buffy
runs back into the library where the phone rings. It's Buffy's mom wanting
to schedule a college talk. While, Buffy is trying to convey to her mother
that this isn't the best time she hears Spike's voice on the other end of
the phone. Buffy drops the phone and runs home. Cut to Joyce and Spike talking
over cocoa about Spike's break-up with Dru. Joyce tries to be comforting
but Spike just won't accept. Angel shows up and tries to get Joyce to invite
him in, while Spike taunts him by pretending to bite her. Buffy storms in
and pushes Spike around while inviting Angel in to help. Just as Spike is
about to get dusted he screams that he has her witch friend and Xander held
captive somewhere. This confuses Joyce trying to figure exactly what is going
on. Spike agrees to have Buffy and Angel follow him to get the supplies because
Buffy doesn't trust him. They go to the magic store and get everything they
need. While there Spike going in to this very long, though very deep, solioquoy
about love. He tells Buffy and Angel that they can never be friends, they
can be lovers or they can hate each other, but NEVER friends. Cut to Cordy
and Oz in Oz's van. Oz using his werewolf abilities picks up Willow's scent
and they head towards the factory. The shopping is done and on their way
to the factory the trio is ambushed by the "commitee" of vampires that used
to work for Spike. They fight in the street and in the store. Xander and
Willow are very scared that Spike will kill them. They reason it is ok to
kiss since they are probably going to die anyway. While they are kissing
Cordy and Oz come in. Cordy turn abruptly and runs up the stairs only to
fall thru the stairs and be skewered on a spike in her torso area. Back to
the fighting, after it's all over and they've won Spike is rejuenated. He
decides he doesn't need a love spell to make Dru love him again. He just
has to act like his old evil self again. He leaves Buffy and Angel standing
in the store and tells them where to find Willow and Xander. Oz goes to get
help while Xander lowers himself in to the hole which Cordy fell thru. After
a few seconds of moaning and finally a deep exhalation, the camera cuts to
the funeral. After a few terrifying moments of the relevation of Cordy's
death Buffy and Willow walk in front on the funeral remarking that Cordy
will be ok. While millions of viewers give a sigh of
relief. Xander goes to the hospital to see Cordy.
She tells him she never wants to Buffy is back at the mansion with Angel.
She tells him that they can't hang out anymore because they can never be
friends like Spike said. She laments that she can fool everyone but herself
and strangely Spike. Angel tells her that he still wants to be with her and
she says there is only one way for that to happen, and that would be that
he has to tell her he doesn't love her anymore. An awkward silence follows
as Buffy walks out.A montage of images follows showing everyone sad that
they lost their sweetie. Except, Spike who has the radio going full blast
singing "My Way" as he leaves town, ready to do whatever it takes to get
Dru back.
