Born in Haven not long after her mother settled there, Cassie grew up loving the town and it's people (except Tomar's group). Although she was friends with the other girls in the village, her mother's insistance on training her in the healing arts kept Cassie without the time to develop a truely close friendship with any of them.
A lot of her childhood was spent, quite happily, looking for herbs and learning their properties, figuring how to add them to create potions and poltices for all wounds and illnesses. Then as she got older she learnt the messier side of the craft (surgery, midwivery, etc), and the magic that Hillary Blackwell was locally famous for. She seemed to have the same natural abilities as her mother, but never seemed quite as sure of herself, probably because she looked up to her mother's greater skill and wondered how she could ever match it. Nonetheless, the townsfolk were soon just as happy to have her aid as her mother's if the situation was not serious.
Cassie is a cheerful girl, always eager to help others. She knew Kona and Roald from late childhood, the three of them allies against Tomar and his friends. Cassie enjoyed tagging along with the boys occasionally on their misadventures, although more often she was the one they would come to for help afterwards, for removing evidence and treating wounds they shouldn't have had.
Cassie had always seen herself growing up to live a similar life to her mother's (although, probably married), as the town healer. She has on occasion wondered about the identity of her father, but as her mother never volunteered the information, she privately decided her mother must not have thought him a suitable father.
