Secure Technologies CIPScan Smart Link
Ever had your Smartlinked weapon stolen and used against you? Ever wished that you could do something about it? Well now you can with STs new CIPScan Smartlink! This unique gun security system provides an affordable and effective method for keeping your weapon out of enemy hands!
Perhaps you are wondering how the CIPScan system can accomplish this. Every cyberware smartlink in use since 2030 (including the those that use the advanced ADVAT.328) has a Cybernetic Interface Pattern or CIP. These CIPs provide every cybernetic smartlink with a unique "finger print." Whenever a gun equipped with a CIPScan Smartlink (internal or external) is brandished by someone with a palm induction system (the interface method preferred by 9 out of 10 security professionals) our patented CIPScan technology checks the pattern against one in memory. If it matches, the smartlink engages normally. If not the smartlink and the gun are both locked down and cannot be used. Furthermore, if you have also installed one of our our optional shock systems, the miscreant will have to face a mind numbing blast of electricity straight through his smartlink. Just imagine the look on his face!
Each CIPScan system can accommodate several separate CIP profiles allowing guards under your employee to trade weapons. Also, every CIPScan system can be configured to keep a gun inactive and useless unless an appropriate CIP is provided.
The CIPScan Smartlink is available in ratings from 1-5. The shock system is available in ratings up to 7.

Rules
Whenever a weapon equipped with a CIPScan system is readied by a person with a cybernetic smartlink, the system checks the users CIP. To simulate this roll (rating) dice against a target number equal to 5. If the system gets one or more successes then it is able to determine the CIP's validity. If the system gets no successes the it is unable to decide and the works normally for the next turn. The system will try again during the next combat turn. On the odd chance that the test comes up all 1s the system falsely validates or invalidates the CIP.
If the system has decided that the CIP is valid the gun will work normally. If, on the other hand, the system decides the CIP is invalid the gun locks down and will not fire. Any added shock system will go off forcing the holder to resist the appropriate damage level. Armor and combat pool do not apply to this test. Each system can hold a number of CIP profiles equal to its rating plus one.
CIPs are programmed into a gun through a built in datajack. Any one with a cyberdeck and a few cheap peripherals (about 500 nuyen) can add to, delete from or modify the weapon's CIP list by making a Computer (7) test. An appropriate cybernetics knowledge skill may be used as a supplement.
