Marvelous Rome
Littered with ancient monuments, no description of Rome would be entirely complete. But here's a look at this magnificent city.
The Vatican is a very important sight in Italy. Not only is it the home of the Pope, but it's museum houses one of the most important art collections in the world. To view everything in the Vatican Museum would litteraly take years. I suggest giving it at least a day. As you can see by the photograph, the Vatican is, like many of the historic sites in Europe, undergoing restoration. Don't miss the famous Sistine Chapel with it's newly restored ceiling. (Please don't lie on the floor to admire the ceiling, it's considered bad form.) Also, try to catch the Swiss Guard in their traditional uniforms designed by Michelangelo.

Rome has so many ancient sites, it's impossible to keep track. The most notable is the Coloasseum. At one time this massive building was covered in marble, but as it deteriorated and fell out of favour, the marble was removed from it and used on other projects such as the Theater of Marcellus.(pictured below.)

All of the pictures on this page were all taken and/or owned by me. If you'd like to use any of them, please e-mail me and ask. I'm a pretty nice person and I'll more than likely let you use them!
