It was once told that there was a dragon that had dedicated it's life to destroying the lives of all other dragons. This dragon was known as Dragon Slayer.
The other dragons that lived, feared her for she was strong, powerful, and feared nothing.
No one creature could ever get near her but this is the story of one dragon that did and tamed her vengeful heart, with a vengance and defiance of his own.
Dragon Slayer had a history, had a past that she hide from the world and wanted it kept that way. It was because of this past that she had decided to take it upon herself to destroy every living dragon on earth.
She wanted to be the only one left, and for this she would spend her every living moment hunting and killing all the dragons of the world.
In one day, as she leaned down by the water side and took in a long drink, feeling the cool water rushing down her chest, her past would change. She had been flying all day and something about this valley, one that she had never visited before, caught her attention for she thought that there maybe a few dragons for her to slay and punish. She had been doing this for years and was well trained, other dragons had tried to attack and kill her, to stop her evil plague on the dragon race, but all hadfailed. Dragon Slayer learned quickly to trust no one, that everyone was against her and all would pay for ones betrayal.
This was the reason that she was never relaxed and always tense, making sure that no one could sneak up on her. As she drank the cool water her acute hearing picked up the sound of talons clicking across rock. Her eyes narrowed as she realized something or someone was behind her. Her muscles flexed and she flashed her teeth.
In a split second she whipped her body around and was ready to pounce on whatever it was behind her.
Her eyes locked with those of a another dragons. He was sitting upon a rock, looking down at her. He was large and a deep blue colour. Dragon Slayer was known across the land, every dragon knew about her and feared her.
This dragon looked claim and relaxed. Dragon Slayer hissed and took a step towards him.
"Let me introduce myself," the blue dragon said. "I am Dream Killer."
Dragon Slayer growled and replied, "And I am sure you know who I am."
Dream Killer shook his head. "No sorry Mlady, should I?"
"I am the Dragon Slayer," she hissed back.
Dream Killer shrugged and looked to this Dragon Slayer. "Tis good to meet you Mlady, I am Dream Killer."
Dragon Slayer could not believe what she was hearing. He had never heard of her. Well she was going to make sure she was the last thing he saw. "I live up to me name you know."
Dream killer nodded. "Aye, as do I."
Dragon Slayer revealed shock upon her face.
"Why do you kill dragons?" Dream Killer asked. "What has made you so against us?"
Dragon Slayer snarled. "What does it matter, you will not be living long enough to care."
"I would like to know why I am about to die," Dream Killer replied.
Dragon Slayer snorted. "I suppose you are right but it still doesn't matter."
Dream Killer persisted. "Who hurt you so bad that you decided to start killing all the dragons in the world?"
Upon hearing this a thought ran through her head, so maybe he had heard of her.
"It dosen't matter!" Dragon Slayer replied.
He nodded to her. "Of course it matters. It must have really hurt to make you decided to take revenge on every dragon ever born. What was this dragon like, the one that hurt you?"
Dragon Slayer started to argue but gave up. "He betrayed me. He was my mate, my one and only, the one I was willing to spend the rest of my life with and he left me. He left me for another and behind my back." Dragon Slayer's voice hardened. "Well I found out about it and I made him pay for his betrayal, him and that female of his."
When Dragon Slayer looked back up at Dream Killer, his eyes were filled with sympathy, as if he had been touched by what she had just said.
"I know how you feel then Dragon Slayer," Dream Killer told her.
Dragon Slayer was outraged. "Don't you lay that on me! This is a cruel world and bad things seem to happen to good dragons. And the bad dragons seem to take what they can from the good dragons. There is just no room in this world of anyone but me and I will make it that way. I was forced to live in this world and because of that, I will change it so I like it!"
Dream Killer nodded as if he understood that. "That is exactly how I feel. I too have been betrayed like you and I have killed many, all that did me worng. But it ended there, only those that did me wrong. The rest of the world can go about how they please, I will have nothing to do with them."
Dragon Slayer was curious. "So then you have killed all that must die in your opinion?"
Dream Killer's head fell. "Not all, there is still one more," his voice trailed off.
Dragon Slayer started to take a step towards him and then stepped back instead. she felt a slight twitch within her, as if she felt compassion towards him. It was only there a moment and then it faded.
Dream Killer rolled onto his back and stretched out his wings and yamned. "Do you ever think about what you are doing?" he asked. "I mean all this revenge you are doing, is it really right? I am asking you to think about it. What are you going to do once all the dragons are dead, you will have nothing else to do. Your life which once had meaning will be, well, meaningless!"
Dragon Slayer's face was covered in shock. Her face then hardened. This dragon, this Dream Killer, was just trying to save himself with tricks. "I want to be the last one, only then will I be happy, that is how I want it. This is my mission in life. I will not stop until itis completed."
Dream Killer nodded, his face covered with compassion. "I know how that feels. I too will not stop, there is only one last dragon to die."
Dragon Slayer felt a twitch within her, as if she felt sorry for him. As if she felt close to him, unlike she had before with any dragon. "May I ask your story, who is this last one to die?"
Dream Killer looked towards the sky. "My mate too betrayed me and I felt a rage within me and a lust for death I had never experienced before and then and in that i realized I had to set out to kill all that had done wrong to me. And all did die, but one."
Dream Killer closes his eyes as tears start to form, he quickly looks to the lake.
"Who were these dragons, other then your mate I mean?" Dragon Slayer asked, curious now and feeling close to him, wanting to know more. She understood how he felt. She knew exactly how the pain he described felt.
Dream Killer opened his eyes, then looked at her, from the lake. "They were my family."
Dragon Slayer swallowed hard and could feel saddness dwelling within her gut. "You killed your family, but why?"
Dream Killer shock his head. "It doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is the last one who has to die, is near."
Dream Killer forced a smile and patted the sword next to him. "That dragon will die soon enough, slayed by this sword."
Dragon Slayer snorted with disgust. She raised her talons to him. "I was taught how to use these long before I was even taught how to fly. I need no manmade weapon to do what I must do. Every dragon that I have killed were destroyed by my own claws!"
Dream Killer slowly nodded. "Yes I can see the honour in that. I simply chose this path instead."
Dragon Slayer relaxed her body for the first time and stretched out her wings and then folded them against her back. "You speak so wisely. You asked me what I was going to do once all the dragons were dead. You said that my life would be meaningless. Doesn't that same rule apply to you too?"
Dream killer just shook his head.
Dragon Slayer quickly asked. "Who is that last dragon that has to die Dream Killer?"
Dream Killer locked eyes with her. "The last dragon to die for my vengance is myself."
Dragon Slayer's mouth dropped open. She could not believe what she had heard him say. "Why, why are you going to kill yourself?"
"I told you that all that did me wrong were to die," Dream Killer explained. "I have done myself wrong. My vengeance against the world is what brought me to this end. I was wrong about what I did and for that I must die along with the rest that I have killed, my life is already meaningless, so, I am going to end it."
Dragon Slayer walked towards him. "That can't be true. No one should take their life. There must be dragons out there that still cares about you?"
Dream Killer shook his head and said nothing.
Dragon Slayer placed an talon on his. Their eyes locked and everything was silent for a long time. She had never felt so close to another dragon before and she knew that if she let this dragon die, it would be the biggest mistake of her life.
"I can't let you do this," Dragon Slayer told him in a whisper.
Dream Killer looked the dark red dragon over carefully. "And why not? If I do not kill myself, then I will be killed by you. Why haven't you struck yet? Why are we still having this conversation?"
Before Dragon Slayer could reply, Dream Killer disappeared before her eyes.
"Can you find me?" she heard Dream Killer say but could not see him.
Dragon Slayer whipped her body around and looked the area over. She could hear him walking but she was not sure where he was. She walked over to her right where she thought the sounds were coming from.
"Not over there," she heard him say.
Dragon Slayer turned and walked around, listening closely. The sounds took her into a small cave. In the centre was a large bolder. She stopped and stared at it. It didn't take long for Dream Killer to slowly reappear.
"Very good," he said to her. "I am going to make you an offer Dragon Slayer. We are two dragons, avengers to our kind and yet, we foundeach other against the strongest odds. That, is what I call fate. We are meant for each other. We are now given the chance to change our ways and live out our lives with each other, to love each other."
Dragon Slayer felt a warmth within her, one that had been missing in her life for a long time. She smiled. "I would like that very much my Lord."
With this Dream Killer slowly approachs Dragon Slayer and takes her in his arms and hugs her, he sences that she is uncomfertable, but he continues to hug her anyway.
Dragon Slayer's mind starts to take control, and as she is about to unfold her claws and slash his throat, but as her heart starts to feel diffrent, she can not open her claws, so reluctently she wraps her arms around him and hugs in return.
And so ends the tell of the Dragon Slayer and the Dream Killer.
