Why Did Mr. Page Play That Doubleneck?

{Earl Hooker Cd cover

Let's hear it for Russ Houston! This fine fellow took the time to send me two links which answered why Jimmy Page bought a Gibson Doubleneck guitar. Sadly, it has nothing to do with Elvis Presley. On the positive side, it has everything to do with with a late blues great who never got the attention he deserved.

According to a web page titled "Jimmy Page's Guitars" (http://zeppelin.hippy.com/jimgs.htm), the Zep axe master was inspired by the cover to Earl Hooker's "Two Bugs And A Roach" album. This makes sense, as Earl was a far better guitarist than Elvis. If you enjoy blues and have never heard Mr. Hooker, do yourself a favour and check out the music of this amazing slide master.
