I was digging around looking for one thing (can't recall what it was anymore) when I came across a batch of guitar magazines dating back to the mid-1980's. Hmm ... looks like times and tastes have certainly changed!
Just for fun, I thought I'd scan a few things and post them for all the guitar historians out there.
In keeping with the general theme of this Home Page, the first item is a guitar designed by none other than Leo Fender. Check it out!
"The Invader" was marketed as a "versatile Rock'N'Roll Guitar with the classic sounds of the Les Paul and the Stratocaster. The Invader features a humbucking pickup in the bridge position and single coil pickups in the middle and neck positions. Three independent pickup selector switches allow the selection of any one, two, or all three pickups. The Invader comes standard with the Kahler 2320, and with hand rubbed finishes in Black, White, Rampage Red and Hot Pink."
The advertisement concluded with this message:All G & L guitars are American made, designed and manufactured by Leo Fender. "THE REAL ONES."
What retrospective of 80's guitars is complete without a sexist ad? Check out this offering from Dean:
