Gambit '99 (9/99) - Trying to find out what the anomaly is that inhabits Gambit's body, Professor X perfoms a test on him that purges the being...a woman named Mary. She immediately takes off with Gambit, leaving Charles, Marrow, and Rogue unconscious in her wake. Moira, who has been monitoring the test with Charles, alerts Beast and he shows up soon thereafter. The group decides that in order to find out more about Mary, they must travel to Antarctica where she no doubt first encountered Remy. The group goes there and discovers traces of Gambit having been trapped there...including a tape recorded diary. The team also finds video footage of Magneto and his prisoner, the being known as Mary. They figure out that Mary, a mutant that perished years ago, still exists in another wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum. She had initially tried to inhabit the body of Magneto, but he was able to fight her off. Gambit, however, encountered her after his trial and allowed her to inhabit his body in order to keep him alive. With this knowledge, they go and find Remy and are able to purge Mary from his body using a machine set at the same wavelength as her own body.
