Description Background
Loin is a tall, gangly youth who seems more at home behind a plow than astride a white charger in full plate armor. He is very well-mannered and polite, cheerful to a fault, and downright naive. He sees the world in black and white, and either someone is on the side of right and good or they are an evil abomination that must be destroyed for the protection of the common man. His armor gleams in the sunlight, more from lack of any real battles than a great effort on polishing, but his stumbling gait and clumsy swordsmanship reveal he is little more than a well-meaning kid in armor rather than a mighty warrior and champion for good. There is no question he believes wholeheartedly in what he does, and could very well be a great hero given some experience. Young Loin grew up in the small village of Beef in the heart of the fertile farmlands of Azeroth. He loved to hear stories of brave knights riding forth against the Horde and winning honor on the battlefield. He loved especially hearing of the paladins who would ride forth across the land, dispensing justice and righting wrongs. With the eager blessings of his parents, who quickly tired of his clumsiness destroying their hard-earned farm implements, he left to serve the Regent Lord of Azeroth as a page, hoping to eventually fulfill his dream of serving Azeroth as a paladin. He studied every lesson he was presented with as if his very life depended on it. He actually did well in the studies that didn't require too much physical activity, where his clumsiness would more often than not get the best of him. He eventually was granted the title of squire, and was apprenticed to the great paladin Sir Uther Lightbringer. At the height of Azeroth's conflict with the Horde, Sir Uther was called away on a diplomatic mission, leaving Loin to his duties in Stromgarde. He would hear from the peasants passing through the city of the increase of brigands and bandits on the roads of Azeroth, as most of the wandering knights had been called to the front. He decided to do his master proud and prove his worthiness by riding forth as a knight and dispense justice across the countryside in his master's absence. Striding into Stromgarde's armory, he girt himself in armor and weapons and selected the only horse he could stay astride of from the stable, a retired war horse that was older than he was. He sought the blessing of a monk he knew from childhood, and was christened Paladin Protector of Azeroth. His first test in battle came later that week when he came upon a marauding kobold who was terrorizing small children on their way home from school. One mighty blow from his broadsword (still in the scabbard, he forgot all about it) sent the kobold scampering for cover, and gave Loin all the confidence his naive mind needed to convince himself that he was indeed ready to become the paladin of his dreams. As a trophy from his first victory, he keeps the kobold's deadly weapon (a pointy stick) tied to his saddle at all times.
