The Exceptional author Anne McCaffery details the Dragons ( and Firelizards ) of her Pern thusly:

Gold - The Queens and egg-layers, largest of Perns' Dragons.
For reference, Ramoth the Queen has a wingspan slightly greater than a DC-10 passanger jet and her body is nearly as long, from nose to tail tip, as the aircraft fuselage.
Bronze - Mates to the Queens and second-largest in size.
Brown - Males, third in size order, descending.
Blue - Males, fourth is descending size.
Green - Female, smallest and sterile, mated by the Browns and Blues.

For those who are not familiar with the Dragons of Pern and their Riders, I suggest a trip to the Windclaw/Muldoon Trading Company Bookstore to pick up any of Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern series of books. They are exceptional writing and excellent reading!
