5X02: Redux 11/02/97

Redux was *almost* worth the five long months of waiting! To me, the most important aspect of this ep is that Mulder continuously places his search for a cure for Scully's cancer above anything else--even finding Samantha. I was amazed to hear Mulder reply "A cure for Scully" when given the chance to find what he wanted most. Mulder apparently has come to belive in Kritchgau's story of a government hoax. More importantly, he is beginning to accept the fact that he may never find his sister. Our man is evolving, and it looks to me for the better.

Personally, I choose not to believe that extraterrestrial life is a hoax. What about all the things Mulder and Scully have seen? And the alien bodies Mulder saw in the Pentagon? This wouldn't be TXF without aliens!

The parallel of Mulder walking the aisles of the storeroom like CSM has is especially cool given that Morley Man is acting more and more fatherlike toward Mulder. The final scenes of Scully collapsing with a nosebleed and of Mulder discovering that the vial he obtained in the storeroom holds only water set the stage for a great sequel. Will Scully live? (duh! Mulder did!) Was Skinner the bad guy all along? Is CSM Mulder's father? (*puff puff*...Muulllderrr....I am your faaatherrr...) Hang on folks, Redux 2 is sure to be a thriller.

Quotes

Mulder: (to Scully as she starts to undress) Keep going, FBI woman.
Scully: Mulder? What are you doing? Why are you sitting in my bedroom in the dark?

Mulder: Level 4 clearance....that means I get to dine at the officers' club?
