The ducks like him. Don't ask me why. I think maybe he knows how to communicate with them. Anyway...you thought Duncan saved Connor from the river in "The Gathering," after Connor jumped off the bridge. What you didn'tsee were his first rescuers...the ducks dove for Connor and his sword, bringing them to the surface so Duncan could rescue his kinsman. The ducks have been following Connor around the Tavern ever since. Yup, we've even got a special place for them in the NorthWest Annex...
Anyhow...in Endgame, when Connor was about to be beheaded, one daring-do duck flew up and knocked Connor out of the way -- but he made the ultimate sacrifice, losing his head in the deal, resulting in the Quackening that followed. (Just be glad you couldn't smell the burning feathers. Or hear the pitiful human quacking as the Quackening was received...they cut those parts out for our protection.) The rest of the ducks quickly carried Connor back to the Tavern.
And now Connor's decided to reside here at the Tavern MacWench, since most of the world thinks he's dead, and beheading is not allowed on the Castle grounds. He needs a long sabbatical from The Game. And that's just fine by me. *g* So if you want to hang out with the Elder Highlnder, he's still around, right here at Castle MacWench.
(That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!! *g*)
