Butz - Main character of the game, Butz is a wanderer, but finds a place with Galuf and Lenna, and joins them on their journey to protect the wind crystal and to help Galuf remember his past.
 
            Galuf - Galuf is first discovered after a meteor crashed near the kingdom of Tycoon.  He has no memory of how he got there.  Although he's older than his companions, he has a thirst for life, and bad jokes.  His origin is discovered as the game progresses.

     Lenna - Lenna is the Princess of Tycoon, daughter of King Tycoon.  Her father leaves to protect the Wind Crystal, and she follows as the meteor hits.  She finds Butz and Galuf, but never loses her dedication to find her father.

     Faris - Faris is a mysterious individual.  Pirate and Captain, Faris joins Butz, Galuf, and Lenna for unknown reasons.  Nobody knows whether he's a she, or she's a he, but he (she) does have a connection with one of the heroes.

     Cara (Kururu)  - Cara is Galuf's granddaughter.  She has the power to speak with animals, and is generally the most innocent of our heroes.  She joins the party by her grandfather's wishes, and although small, her spirit is strong.

     Giglamesh - ExDeath's right-hand man and general nuisance, though a worthy and noble adversary. A warrior who you encounter on numerous occasions. Prepare to be frustrated.

     Exdeath - FF5's Zeromus/Kefka/Sephiroth. His evilness is revealed as the game progresses. His power is supreme, and he's being kept in confine by the power of the crystals. But the crystals are in trouble...
