Class Combinations

Maybe the beauty of Final Fantasy was that you had 6 characters to choose from, in any combination, and you were stuck with them throughout the entire game.  We all have our arguments, our favorite party combinations, their pros and cons.  Here, for your resource, are many different party combinations.

What is everybody's favorite class to use? So far, the classes used in your favorite parties are...
Fighter - 12
Thief - 6
Black Belt - 7
Red Mage - 5
White Mage - 9
Black Mage - 9

All Around

Fighter - Black Belt - White Mage - Black Mage

Perhaps the most common group, this combo provides the best of all worlds and possibly the easiest gameplay.  The fighter can act as the muscles early in the game as the black belt gains levels and becomes stronger for the later levels.  The white mage provides the healing and the black mage can exploit enemies weaknesses to certain elements.  This party was also recommended by Squaresoft in the Final Fantasy Manual and Nintendo Power magazine.

These four characters are a good combo. You can do pretty much anything with these guys. You got a weapons master, an unarmed combat guy, and two magicians with anitpode powers. You can't go wrong with these guys. If you want, you can replace the black belt with a thief or red mage. It's just personal preference. You can destroy anything with these people. One disadvantage; This party costs a considerable chunk of change to equip properly (ESPECIALLY the wizards. Damn the one who came up with the concept of "purchasing" magic!). This group especially works well with beginners. Perhaps a more difficult to manage party is more your style... in that case, get four White Mages. Anyone who can beat Final Fantasy with this party gets my utmost respect. HAI!!!

Fighter - Thief - White Mage - Black Mage

You have the fighter to protect your mages and kill the enemies quickly and without wasting MP. You have the thief simply because the thief can fight as well. And the white mage and black mage are pretty self-explanatory if you ask me. Healing magic and destroying magic. Simple as 1-2-3.

    I tend to agree. :)

There is only one thing that I can say here.. THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST GROUP OF ALL! Proven fact.. well, at least for me...

All Around (Thief) Variation

Thief - Thief - White Mage - Black Mage

This is just a fun party to use. It's kinda hard to get going but once you get the dragon and coral swords, you are set. Then once the thieves become ninjas you can wear heavy armor and use any weapon. I chose the thief over the black belt because thieves have higher hit points and are a sure thing when you want to get away.

Fighter - Thief - Black Belt - Black Belt

This party requires alot of gold to purchase the better weaponry for the fighter, and the ninja, at the beginning of the game. Near the end of your quest, you will have lots of gold left due to the fact that the Masters do not require any weapons. The fighter will act as the main attacker in the party, and the thief ( later as the ninja ) will be the main magician, in addition to the weapons and armor with special effects. When you aquire the Masmune on the fourth floor of the Temple of Fiends revisited, equip the ninja with it. In my opinion, this party is a great combination for veterans, and the fighting strength is unmatched by most enemies. The main disadvantage, is that you will have to do without magic, until you aquire any items with special effects, or until class change.

Fighter - Fighter - Thief - Black Belt

If your tired of buying ridiculously priced magic and still want to kick ass? Try this group you get more power than you can dream of. The only problem is you cant use magic for a while. It's a matter of power or magic that suits your taste.

Fighter - Fighter - Black Belt - Black Mage

I like to have the fighters kicking ass in the early game and then being able to have the black belt once he gets his levels to be unarmed racking up tons of damage then finally a black mage to perform some spells in case an enemy isn't falling quickly to physical punishment

Fighter - Black Belt - Black Belt - White Mage

3 strong attackers while being able to heal with the WW after level 7 or 8 of the BB's they don't need weapons and at the end if they are around level 25 -50 they hit around 1000 to chaos doing the job in one turn.

No real disadvantages except for there will be no black magic use but the strong attack and the ability to cure is a real easy combo for a beginner

Red Magic Brawn Party

Fighter - Fighter - Thief - Red Mage

This is pretty much THE ultimate party at the start of the game. However, as you may have noticed, the Red Mages start out really strong but gradually decrease in usefulness over the course of the game. I have always prefered fighting over magic. It is cheaper and just more fun. This party has excellent defense also. The two fighters up front absorb just about anything, and a thief can usually avoid an attack. Magic isn't as important if you can fight! (and run)

You have two people to do black magic while the red mage also does white magic.

In my opinion with two fighters and two red mages you will have an early lead on the monsters that you are fighting. You will have two people who can cast both black and white magic and can also fight. You will also have two people who can use almost any weapon and armor. While the mages can only cast some black and some white magic, they are good fighters as well!

I believe that this is the best combination because you have two heavy hitters and one person who can cast black magic and the other who can cast both so you can have an equal amount of magic.

Mage Party (w/ Brawn)

Fighter - Red Mage - White Mage - Black Mage

You've got lots of magical firepower here and a respectible amount of physical power. The Red Mage can pick up enough magic to keep you in the fight if you lose either of your other mages. The biggest disadvantage is cost in the middle of the game, and you don't have an overwhelming amount of physical power for bosses, but that's only 10 or 11 of several hundred battles.

This is a great combo for throughout the game. They all can fight, cast magic, and don't cost that much to keep them well protected and have them loaded with some of the needed magic for the game. Even though this may be a bad combination, but like having an all white mage party, you have to be patient and persistent. Anywayz, this party (red mages) worked pretty well for me.

This is really freakin' hard. Try it.

At least there's no question as to which character should hold the Masamune...
