G1 Bluestreak

This review actually covers Silverstreak, which is what the Hasbro reissue of Bluestreak is named. As far as I can tell, the toys are the same. Perhaps Hasbro lost the name, but I like to think that they are correcting the "Blue Bluestreak" confusion from the 80s (something to do with a blue Diaclone version being used for the catalogue photo). Of course, it would have been insanely cool to actually get a blue Bluestreak as a reissue, but oh well. A missed opportunity on Hasbro's part. The toy uses the same mold as Prowl, which is extremely classic to me and one of my favourites. I remember Prowl much more than Bluestreak from my childhood, even though 'Streak is on the show more. Probably due to each toy's colours - Silverstreak is very simplistic compared to police car Prowl. That's not to say that he looks bad; far from it! The overall silvery paint scheme is very sleek and the details like the sunroof and the "Turbo" stickers make this version of the Nissan more sporty than the cop car deco. The robot mode is amazingly classic, just like Prowl's, with the doors swinging out to give a dynamic look and the shoulder rocket launchers emphasizing Silverstreak's military specialty as an Autobot gunner. There is much more going on with stickers and colour in this mode. The silver of the car mode is joined with black and red and they give Silverstreak a really good appearance. Look at his eyes...they are red! Seeing the Decepticons on the show almost exclusively with red eyes makes the toy 'Streak looked like a possessed Autobot...which he was in a TF novel I recently read (the one with "The Keepers" and an Omega Sentinel in the story). Funny how things like that work out. As usual with Series III and beyond, Silversteak comes in a decent display box with the original art on the cover (I think it has been recoloured from the '84 release), a pixelated pic on the back and no extras. Another classic reissue, very recommended!
