G1 Prowl

Prowl - TVProwl - Comic

Reissue G1 Prowl - TFC OK, I admit it, I was hesitating a bit when I first saw the Takara "Transformers Collection" TFs at a local nostalgia store :) Sure Jazz and Prowl looked cool in this funky new packaging...and I mean, hey, it's Jazz and Prowl...come on! But 50 bucks is 50 bucks, and sometimes a toy is not so important.

So I sorted through some of my boxed G.I. Joe stuff and found a few things to trade in, and managed enough to get one of the cars. I read on Ben Yee's site that Jazz was a bit iffy due to his being based off his G2 mold with the floppy feet. So I got Prowl instead. And I am impressed! I never had any of the Autobot cars as a kid; of course I'd played with them at friends' houses, but to actually have one now is so cool!

I can see why this mold was used several times; it's really dynamic with the door "wings" and the shoulder/head cannons. As usual, being a G1 toy, Prowl has little articulation, all of it being in the arms. As usual, I don't care because the toy is so great! I think the only problem I have with Prowl is that his stickers were a real pain to apply, but that's it. Well, maybe his face could look a little sharper, but since the original toy is a couple decades old, I can forgive that. If your a fellow fan of the early G1 toys, then you know the absolute joy of displaying Optimus Prime alongside an Autobot car and the way it can bring you back to 1984. That is the greatest thing about these old toys, their timeless quality, and Prowl has that for sure! The extra deluxe Japanese packaging, with its artwork, profiles, catalogue and episode summary is a totally amazing bonus.
