G1 Perceptor

Perceptor fits the "scientist" stereotype overall in the TV show. He was pretty much a standard character in the second season and came to the rescue many times. He was a more hardcore in the Marvel comics, which was a good change. I bought the reissue more for the sake of owning a toy I never had before than actually wanting a Perceptor figure, but I have to say, this reissue was a pleasant surprise. Perceptor's toy is really quite amazing! Part of this is due to his original toy being a Microchange toy and not Diaclone...thus, he is taller than the Diaclone-based Autobots. And, like most Microchange stuff, his alt mode is functional (within the realms of being a toy). Soundwave has a working cassette door and pseudo-batteries, Megatron fires plastic bullets (the Japanese one does, anyway), and Perceptor can actually magnify stuff in his alt-mode. Not tons, mind you, but it's much cooler than just a plastic tube with clear plastic at the ends. This attention to detail is really great, especially for an early-80s toy. Perceptor's transformation also makes for a really solid robot mode. He's one of the most properly-proportioned Transformers I've ever seen, is incredibly stable while standing, and is capable of more poses than most other G1 toys. There really is no "kibble" anywhere. He also has a third mode: a tank! Not bad for the annoying cartoon scientist. With this reissue, Perceptor has gone from being a character I tolerated in the cartoon to one of the best pieces in my collection!
