G1 Megatron

Megatron - TVMegatron - Comic

Reissue G1 Megatron (TFC #6)Megatron...never in a million years did I expect to see Megatron again! The last time I saw him in person was 1985!!! And the whole "No Toy Guns Allowed!" thing must've been going on since the early 90s; that's when G2 Tank Megatron was released. To actually own a Megatron toy years later...it's amazing!!!

The gun mode impresses; very realistic looking (although I've never seen a P38 in person...) with lots of chrome - just like back in the day. The Japanese have one or two other versions as far as I know, one with a flat grey finish. I prefer the chrome! It's nostalgic and looks sleeker than the other version(s?). Of course, the gun mode isn't just a handgun, but also a Nick Fury-esque hyper-gun once the stock, scope and silencer are attached (thanks to Moz for the description). I can vaguely remember holding this version of the gun when I was 10, and yeah, it probably seemed like a rifle at the time. The stock makes the gun a bit unwieldy, so the scope and silencer is usually what my Megatron's gun mode attaches. I think he appeared half the time in the show without the stock. The metal feet (and wherever else metal appears - shoulders/neck) give the gun some heft, as well as contributing to the overall solidity of this mode. Every piece save for the arms fits exactly flush like it's supposed to. The handle especially feels real. The arms, when transformed into the hammer/safety(?) section, don't want to be completely pressed down so a 1mm space can be seen there. No big deal! With the scope attached, it's less noticeable. One more thing regarding the gun mode - it shoots plastic bullets! Pretty far too, about 5-6 feet depending on the angle. I totally do not remember this feature at all on the 1984 release; it was most likely disabled (although the bullet chamber was still there?).

I really like this version of Megatron! Pics of Megatron don't really convey how cool he looks! The chrome finish/die-cast covers a lot, and everything else is either black/red and/or looking like some crazy-ass robotic circuitry. The only "problem" with Megatron's robot mode is the top of the trigger sticks out. Just attach the scope and put his hip cannon in place (I never put the cannon on the back anyway) and Megatron looks fine. I just watched episode 3 the other day and in one scene, Megatron's hip cannon swings in place and starts blasting. It was pretty cool! The robot mode is proportioned well; I thought Megatron would be all squat and weird-looking! As well as the scope there's a purple energy mace, laser gun and sword. The mace is cool but the real weapon here is the sword, it's HUGE!!! Almost as tall as Megatron. He looks even more vicious when attacking with it. Overall I am really blown away by Megatron's robot mode. He is now my number-one TF bad guy!Masterpiece Megatron

As my Megs is the bookshelf-style #6 NY Megatron Japanese etc. etc. version, it comes with the aforementioned energy mace, sword, bullets (tons of 'em), extra Decepticon sigil sticker sheet and a mouse pad (I'm using it right now :) I think that's everything. The box is a double flip-open contraption to hold all of Megatron's stuff - when it first came in I just stared at it in the package for a while :) The TF World book is laid out a bit differently from the ones that came with Jazz and Prowl. A bit surprising is the profile for Omega Supreme, a toy which only appeared in the western TF world as far as I know. There's also pics of Shockwave, the DX Insecticons (Toybox and Bandai respectively, I think?), a conehead (Dirge?), and some Takara VS packs. The only thing I didn't like was the artwork for Megatron on the 2nd-last page. There's some cool schematics behind him of the Fusion Cannon and gun mode, but the look of Megatron himself is just...weird. That's it though, everything else is great!

This is one of the best TF toys I've ever owned!

Another great TF toy is the Masterpiece Megatron released in early 2007. Basically, all the cool stuff about the G1 original has been updated. With better proportions and detailing, this really is the "ultimate" Megatron!

You are probably asking, "Well, what is THE best TF toy, then?" Why, it's Kremzeek...of course! :) Or possibly Wheelie...
