G1 Insecticons

The Insecticons always held a fascination for me as a kid. I can't specifically recall a time when I saw the toys, so it was probably the TV show that piqued my interest. Here was the Decepticon answer to the Dinobots - not in terms of strength, mind you, but rather the amount of destruction that each "sub-group" would cause! The Insecticons have the ability to clone themselves and completely obliterate the organic structure of the surrounding area (usually farmland or forests) in their quest for energy. They also like to drink oil. Interesting fellows, these Decepticons! E-Hobby released a very cool re-colour of the reissues, this time in the original Diaclone paint schemes! I didn't bother picking up any of the E-Hobby stuff earlier because of the prohibitive price, but these guys were eventually available discounted, and I thought they'd make really excellent Insecticon clones. And they do! Note the energon cubes - the regular reissue has them also. The cubes can fit in the "Diaclone cockpits" - you should just be able to make them out inside the Insecticons. This is one of those things that is fascinating about Transformers...a feature that is used in the original toyline (Diaclone) becomes a mystery for 20 years (see also "Why do the Dinobots have cockpits/seats?!?"), and then gets used again - this time as a new feature that is part of TF lore: Energon cubes!
