G1 Grapple

Grapple has a bit of an interesting history in Autobot lore. It's entirely possible that he appeared in a really early TV episode as "Hauler", the yellow crane truck that pulls Hound up from a chasm. Or maybe it was just some random yellow crane truck that Cliffjumper decided to name. Either way, Grapple is a great 1985 release. He shares the same mold as Inferno, minus the white fins. His function is also different - Inferno has a ladder to fight fires, Grapple has a crane to help build his architectural designs. I never really got into the character until I saw the Season 2 episode "The Master Builder", where Grapple's desire to build, rather than destroy, causes him to trust the Constructicons and they end up collaborating on a huge solar energy tower. It's difficult to tell if they were being patronizing, but in the episode, the Constructicons are constantly in awe of Grapple's capabilities as a builder and designer. Of course, they were only helping Grapple so that the Decepticons could seize the tower for their own devious plans. This episode demonstrated a camaraderie between Hoist and Grapple as well, and it was cool to see two engineers (construction & mechanical, not lunatic i.e. Wheeljack) working together.
