Naturism

What?

Naturism is defined, for me, as a condition of living. Naturism is simply the desire to be free of clothing wherever and whenever practical. Conditions of practicality depend on environment and personal preferences. For some people, it is practical to be nude outside when the temperature is below freezing. I am not one of those people. Inside the house is an ideal environment, unless you happen to live with people who would be bothered by naturism. Naturism is not an activity, but an option that can be exercised with many activities. It can be likened to the wearing of contact lenses. Wearing contact lenses is not an activity but can be performed to augment many activities. Some activities are better performed with glasses, while others are better performed with contact lenses. In any case, it is a matter of comfort. So it is with many naturists.

Who?

Naturism is not for a special elite. Naturism is classless, ageless, raceless, genderless. Children seem to adapt especially well to naturism. Naturism is something that can be applied to every being on the planet. There are no requisites, save the one with which we are born : that you be able to be nude. Willingness is the factor which decides who are naturists and who are not.

When and Where?

This question is appropriately answered by the environment and personal preferences. Some people prefer to practice naturism in nature and usually prefer to be called naturists. Others prefer resorts and "colonies" where many like-minded people can gather and enjoy more of the benefits of modern technology. These people generally prefer to be called nudists.

Any nudist-friendly environment is a great place. A nudist-friendly place can be generally described as any place where no one will object to nudity.

Nudists and naturists will tend to go naked when practical. Certain situations, such as spot-welding iron structures, are not considered practical by everyone. Opinions will tend to vary widely, based on background, climate of upbringing, and tolerance for pain.

How?

To practice naturism or nudism, an appropriate time and place must be found. If a person thinks that they may not be ready for the full "social" aspect to social nudism, an empty house is an ideal place, so long as no laws regarding breaking and entering are violated. One simply removes ones clothes to suit that person's comfort, based on regulations of the place. "Clothes-free" environments require full nudity. "Clothes-optional" generally accept any state in between full nudity and fully clothed. Check before you go.

Why?

Health reasons in support of naturism abound. I will not list them here, primarily because one can find them without much effort and I find it extremely boring to have the same thing reiterated on scores of web-pages that I have just read.

My personal philosophy is that all beings are created beautifully. Genesis 1:27 states, "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female." Genesis 1:31 states, "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." All humans are made in the image of God, who cannot be considered anything but beautiful. At least that is how I would describe the One who created the entire world. Various humans show varying degrees of attractiveness, but this is fairly subjective. Beauty remains constant because God, in whose image we are created, is unchanging. These tawdry garments in which we wrap ourselves attempt to hide much of the beauty of God in a veil of commercialism. Imagine an eagle in flight wearing a tuxedo. Imagine a tigress dressed in a formal evening gown. I find it rather humorous.

I do not condemn others for differing beliefs, because I see my naturism as a chance to grow close to God and to show the glory of God to others. If others choose not to, that is their decision and I respect any decision which is thought out.

I also believe that every life is sacred. I am not a vegetarian because the destruction of plant life results from many crops. I think that in eating, we affirm our duties to and for God. In taking a portion of what was once alive into ourselves, we agree that we shall live to glorify God and ensure that the life we consumed was glorified by being put to good use. In performing evil acts, we sadden our creator and those lives who gave what they had to nourish the one who acts.
