Taking the first step into Reality

     There comes a time in some peoples lives where, it is time to quit being a virtual slave or Master. No longer satisfied with what the electronic medium offers, they now have many questions to ponder and decisions to make, before taking that step...the one that can't be undone.

     Many sacrifice families, jobs, homes, to be what they are inside, and to live in today's society with the Gorean philosophy. To decide to leave one's family, a comfortable living, children, apple pie, is devastating. Jobs may not understand collars, belief's, and the abrupt changes in mannerisms, as one becomes more openly honest with themselves and others. Family members may shun, due to lack of understanding and worse, not wanting to even try. Closed minds can be painful when it is one you love.

     These decisions are not easy to make for anyone. Other parties, not able to understand where their spouse is coming from, children not sure what is wrong with Dad or Mom, are things to consider, for one hopes to at least maintain an open line of communication. One does not wake up one day and say "Hey, I am Gorean" and simply walk out on a marriage and family. That idea is stupid and ludicrious. But yet many feel that is how it should be done.

     Those who wish to take this step, need support, not someone telling them, "it is cheating!", "why prolong it?", "are you waiting for Him/Her to leave first?". Since when is a heavy duty decision made in haste, a good decision? We see that daily, with all the collar removals and collarings, that it is not. This is real life, more than one person's in most cases. Because of that and the community that we "claim" to be a part of, should we not support those who truly wish to live the philosophy they have come to embrace and love? Should we not lend an ear, a helpful hand, a soft word of encouragement?

If it was you, going through this turmoil, isn't that what you would hope for, from those you call friend?
