Joxer meets up with Xena and Gabrielle with a pack of wolves on his heels. When wolves disperse Joxer informs Xena that he has a package for her. It turns out it is Orpheus' head, Orpheus' talking head. It turns out that Bacchus is after him. The only way to stop Bacchus is to put him to sleep by playing a special lyre and Orpheus' singing. In this episode we learn that Joxer's mother made him take music lessons when he was a child. On their way to Bacchus' lair Joxer sees dried blood on Xena's neck and suspects she will turn into a Bacchae. He finds out later that it Gabrielle who ends up turning into a Bacchae. At Bacchus' lair Joxer manages to get the lyre and play it so that Orpheus can sing. This distracts the Bacchae and Xena uses Gabrielle to turn herself into a Bacchae so she can kill Bacchus. The plan succeeds, but Bacchus' haunting eyes ends the episode.
