From the beginning there are a few changes evident in this episode. The intro has been revised to include Carey and a few scenes from the new season while leaving out Clu. The younger Bell is presumably away at college while the older boy has joined Molly’s band. Carey seems to settle in quickly. He can toss off comments about the KISS reunion tour like an old road pro or goof around with Jack like a hyperactive teenager.
It’s Halloween and the MPB has been booked to play in the quaint little town of Rhiannon, Rhode Island. The people are friendly and prosperous and trusting. There are no locks on any building in town – except the town hall. Molly is enchanted by the "Weed Rose", the bed and breakfast where they’ve made reservations, but she is disappointed to learn that her show has been cancelled. After riding fourteen hours on the bus she opts to simply stay the night anyway.
Meanwhile, Jack is enlightening Carey about some of Fiona’s idiosyncrasies. It turns out that Fiona doesn’t "do" Halloween. Instead of being one of her favorite holidays, as Carey supposes it should be, Fiona actually dislikes it. She is frustrated that people spend an entire day making fun of the very things that she so desperately wants them to take seriously. She is aggravated that people have turned the old druidic holiday of Samhain into nothing more than a night of costumes and candy. As Fi continues in "lecture mode" the kids are surprised to meet a shopkeeper who doesn’t seem to even realize that it is the day of Halloween.
Later, back at the "Weed Rose" the Phillips and Bells share a meal with Mary, the owner of the bed and breakfast. After dinner Mary runs them all out of the kitchen explaining that NOT helping with the dishes is one of the house rules. When the guests leave the kitchen, however, Mary herself darts out the back door muttering that she hopes they’ll "stay put" for a few more hours. A loud noise startles Fiona and Molly who come back into the kitchen. They see the disarray that Mary has left behind and are surprised by three silent trick-or-treaters on the porch. These eerie children appear and disappear rather quickly.
Molly and Fiona head into town. Everyone that they encounter seems to be dressed in costume. They even run into Mary’s husband Fergus who has been away on a business trip. This character is played by none other than the "Fonz" – also known as Mr. Executive Producer, or more familiarly as Henry Winkler. Molly and Fi are completely taken aback by this very strange man who positively reeks. Fiona is convinced that something odd is going on in Rhiannon and follows Fergus. Molly tries to follow Fi but is delayed by Carey and Jack. Molly and the boys split up in an attempt to locate Fiona.
Fi winds up outside the town hall. She eavesdrops as Fergus tries to convince Mary to let him in. It seems that Fergus has actually been away for an entire year – trapped as a "guest" in the spirit world. The costumed people that are roaming the town’s streets are really the ghosts of people who have died in Rhiannon. These spirits give Rhiannon a year of prosperity in return for one night of freedom… and a mortal or two. Mary has planned for Molly and her family to be the "guests" for the coming year so that her own husband can return to the land of the living. Fergus thinks that this is a wonderful idea and is less than pleased to discover that Fi has overheard the discussion.
As Fergus runs away Fiona runs to the "Weed Rose". She tries to convince her mom that the town is planning a party for them and that they’ll have to dress up. Ned and Irene agree that it might be fun and Molly reluctantly caves. It’s clear that her enchantment with the quaint little town has completely worn off. When Fergus leads the town ghosts to the bed and breakfast he is surprised and dismayed to see that Fi has gotten her family and the Bells to "play dead". They’re all dressed as zombies, too. Apparently the spirits' judgement is based solely on appearance and they believe that the Phillips and Bells are just a few more dead folk out for Samhain. The ghosts drag Fergus back with them again.
Molly demands an explanation from Fiona and the girl willingly obliges. Fi tells the absolute truth… and it’s apparent that no one believes a word of it. They pack up the bus and leave. Immediately.
