The Distance

There is something settling...
Is it the air,
Or is it the water,
Could it be the light,
Or maybe the ground
A sudden stillness,
A calmness

There is a thought that maybe it was caused by the distance
Could that be?
But is there really distance between friendships
Or even that which is more
There is an internal tie
But how much does distance really stretch it
And how much is really only the mind

Reaching out
Catching the universe in jar
Staring, staring, staring
But this cannot be,
Such a thing cannot be
There is too much distance

The calmness grows
It cannot be but yet it is
The jar begins to shake
The universe is expanding
The jar feels the distance

The lid was never on
This is curious
The distance could have escaped anytime
The universe could have escaped
The planets and stars and dust could have escaped
any time
any time

It chose to stay
It did not run away
Yet the jar trembles
And yet the calmness is still there
