Sci-Fi sets

Sceneries are an essential element in any cinematographic narration. They grant space continuity for narrative action; accentuate the actor's emotions or transmit feelings to the audience, emphasizing the dramatic quality of the scene by using the scenic decoration and the use of the light.

Its functionality has not changed too much since the beguining of cinema; nevertheless papier maché and wood structures are disappearing in benefit of pixels and digital technology. In "Matrix", for example, some sceneries in which the camera goes along circular trajectories, the set is totally virtual. The same thing happens in multitude of the last "star wars" films sequences as well as in "Spiderman", where they had to recreate in 3D practically all Manhattan for the scenes in which the hero makes his "flights" by the streets of New York.
