A supremely skilled hacker, the computer security consultant David Gabbiani is really DaVinci, the Renaissance Hacker.  He's a friendly person whom almost everyone likes instantly.  He gets along with almost everyone...except hostile viruses and racist bastards.

DaVinci's hatred of racists began when he worked as Chief of Computer Security for TruPharm Incorporated, run by the religious zealot Klaus Lans.  Lans was staunchly opposed to the sheer existence of sprites and Anthros, whom he saw as "synthetic demons."  (And don't get Lans started on viruses.)  Eventually, DaVinci grew fed up with Lans' views, quit TruPharm and moved to System Resonate.

About this same time, a security protocol on his computer -- a semi-intelligent program -- achievved AI and escaped his computer, getting a sprite body through unknown means.  This AI was later re-classified as a virus, Lean Il Lupe, who ran afoul of Lans briefly before breaking into a forbidden Colony World and taking it over.  Il Lupe then sought DaVinci in his megalomaniacal plan to conquer the Metaverse.

DaVinci still lives in System Resonate, but has come to peace with his checkered past.  He has dark hair and eyes and typically wears a green jacket.  He also wears dark green sunglasses which periodically flicker with bright light.
