If you have even 15 minutes of free time per week, you can contribute to the campaign in a meaningful way. Listed below are some examples of small projects you can take on that will make the game more rewarding for all involved.

 
Multiple-choice questions Answer 7 questions from this list about your character.
Create a replica Create a drawing, sketch, or hand-crafted replica of an original item that your character uses.
Write a list of ideas, rumors, or facts Write up a list of ideas, rumors, or facts relevant to your character or the campaign.
Draw a family tree Draw a family tree for your character.
Draw a map Create a map of a particular area with a few details filled in. For example, the village your character grew up in, or the neighborhood of a particular city your character has visited.
Design a new magic spell or item Design a new spell, magic item, or gadget.
Research a famous person, event, or place Briefly research a famous person, event, or period relevant to the campaign or your character and present your findings.
Design an NPC Design an NPC relevant to your character or based on a famous person you have researched.
Gather images Gather one or more interesting images or bits of information relevant to the campaign or your character from the Internet, books, or magazines.
Find or make a picture of your character Draw a portrait of your character or find a picture that you think resembles your character.
Design a feat or prestige class Design a new, well-balanced feat or prestige class.
Develop a secret Develop a secret for your character that the other PCs don't know.
Describe your future Write a paragraph describing where you see your character after gaining 5 more levels and what items the character might have.
Describe your patron Write a paragraph describing who your character's patron is and why.
Describe your alignment Write a paragraph describing why the alignment your character has chosen is the best alignment. See chapter six of the PHB for inspiration.
Write a letter Write a short letter from your character to a living relative. The relationship can be congenial, antagonistic, or simply distant as you see fit.
Describe your morning routine Describe your character's typical morning routine.
Describe your manner of speaking Write down three idioms that your character uses often. These can be expressions your character uses when suprised, overjoyed, or simply talking informally. They don't even need to be complete phrases; general speech patterns will work fine.
Summarize the last session Write a short synopsis of the last playing session, from your character's point of view.
Describe an object Write a short description of an object that is important to your character.
Describe an encounter Write a short anecdote describing an encounter (not necessarily a combat encounter) your character had in an unusual environment (a burning building, a humid jungle, or a frigid mountaintop might be examples of extreme environments).
Describe a moral dilemna Write a paragraph describing a moral dilemna that your character experienced before the campaign began.
