We all need a lot of things. Most people would agree, I think, that all humans need at least the following (if they want to survive more than three months): Nutrition, water, oxygen, a surrounding temperature between -100 and +200 degrees Celsius, and freedom from being sliced into very small pieces by sharp objects. I think most people would also say that humans need love in one form or another. I think the group of people who would say this is about as big as the group of people who would say that humans need the things mentioned above, and that the two groups share most members but not all. All this is of course just a rather unqualified guess. It seems that to avoid going mad we need some sort of sensory stimulation, some change around us. I have no idea exactly how long a very strong-willed and/or imaginative and/or meditation-skilled and/or calm and stoic and/or whatever else would help person could go without this, but probably not forever and most of us can't even handle it for very long. Etc, etc. I'm not sure if I need books. I probably don't. I hope I don't. I know I do like them. Here's my page about books I've read. With love, Martin
