Malan, I think we'll be able to learn to fly today. Paranath said to his weyrmate. Malan walked over and looked Paranath over. He nodded and laughed. "You know what? I think you're right. Let me go check with the flying teacher and we'll find out," Malan answered. He walked out of the weyr, leaving Paranath to sun on the ledge. He ran down the steps and looked for M'lol, who taught the new pairs how to fly. Malan found M'lol and ran up to him. "Hey, M'lol!" he said. "Paranath says he thinks we're ready to learn how to fly! Can we learn? Is he big enough?" "Well, lad. Why don't we go look at him and see," M'lol laughed. Malan led the way back up the stairs and to his room. When the two got there, Malan called, "Paranath! Wake up! M'lol's here and he wants to look at you." The two walked out to the ledge where Paranath was sunning. M'lol looked him over and asked Paranath to stretch his wings. The dragon did and M'lol whistled. "His wings looked strong enough to support both of you. How about we start training tomorrow?" M'lol asked. Malan nodded breathlessly and when the older dragonrider had walked out the door, Malan threw his arms around Paranath. "We'll be able to fly!" he cried. We'll be able to go anywhere once I have the strength in my wings! Paranath answered. The two enjoyed the elation of finally being able to fly.
